If you mean Matt and Peter? Probably. Do you mean two more unnamed people? That would be 17 people per bottle I have to say no to that, unless there are three dropouts which well might happen.

Meanwhile a Rhysian data point tonight. Mucking about in the Rhys Smaugpile tonight for this cramped-table who-is-showing-up Uber-on-call holy-crap-we-got-verticals-from-2006 hometown (Sean, Craig, George) event, I grabbed San Mateo County 2012 and Alesia Sonoma County 2011. Isn't mucking about your pile fun? Pulling not-super-expensive wines you forgot about to put on your kitchen counter for "later?" Cooked a smaller sized Flannery New York "Wagyu" (uh huh) (tender but boring) I received in 1982 with garlic powder Worcestershire and at the last minute I unhealthily added French sea salt.
Yes I live alone.

2012 San Mateo: soupy rich delicious as complex as you would want in a hedonistic wine with soft full fruit, if there are stems (yes) they belong and are melted. Reminds me of the best and worst of the Home Vineyard...until a very nice acidity bites on the back end. Soupy hedonistic fruit with acidity? If this were Australia it would be added acidity . I don't care. It's great . 500 ml.

Edited later (I finished the boring but tender Wagyu thing) to add:
heat, alcohol imbalance, extraction, are NEVER an issue with any Rhys red ever made. It's a given. I have many friends who have told me they don't like American Pinot. I ask them name your last five. OK three. I would hate them too. They've never had a balanced non oaky American pinot and there are dozens of pinots-done-right out there. But with Rhys there's a Clint Eastwood rigorousness to the absence of pandering. Me like. You no like? Put it in your north closet for five more years. You like.

2011 Alesia Sonoma Coast:
On another planet from the above in every way except there's a budging fullness to the fruit. Presentation is lighter and racier. It's very good premier cru (not single vineyard but simply Premier Cru) Burgundy but fuller. What does it offer that a full but balanced Chambolle/Gevrey/Vosne (definitely not Morey or Nuits) does not?

Nothing, except that California fullness bulge and astounding value.

It's got some earth/loam too. But still classic Premier Cru Burgundy. I'd balk at $120 but I'd buy at $100 were it French and were I anxious to taste Burgundian leanness. I suspect I did not pay $100 for this.

But a well balanced party in the glass is a tough act to follow and the San Mateo is like speedreading Rhys. I don't need to try the Sonoma again, I have too much Burgundy already ("A Strange Time Bomb in Every Bottle"), but I could drink the San Mateo next to my Thomas forever. The Sonoma comes too close to Beaune ("really it's just like Nuits but only the cognoscenti have discovered its value." Um. No.).

Yes, Matt and Peter is what I meant. Just thought we should do what we can to make room for one extra waitlister, particularly from out of town. Sorry if my "two" made that unclear [cheers.gif]

Well, I'm the worst.

My colleague in SD is unexpectedly on emergency PTO and I'm being forced to go to SD this week to cover for him at a conference. I'll be gone this upcoming week.

Looks like a wait list person gets to benefit from my misfortune. Sorry guys

I’m in. Happy to bring the 2006 Alpine Hillside unless there’s a different hole to fill.

I’ll be coming from Los Altos. Let me know if anyone wants to share a ride.
Thanks,
Peter

Can someone bring a couple of extra stems for me? Not picky - any hand blown stems designed specifically for Santa Cruz Mtn pinot would be fine! [wow.gif]
Thanks,
Peter

I subbed out the Chardonnay for an 06 KK Estate Cabernet. I also received the 2017 Goodfellow Berserker Cuvee today via UPS. Already popega'd that one... See everyone tonight.

I share your sentiment but let me be more articulate and precise.

Um. Now what. Bottles.

Yum.

WTF?

Whoa.

Yup.

Huh?

Thanks Kevin.

Pass that bottle I want to try it again.

Someone brought that? Cool.

Another flight?

OK.

Uber.

How can you credibly say “older Rhys” when the oldest one was 2001? I feel I should demand a refund.

My favorites were 06 Swan, 08 Alpine and 08 Skyline, though the last is very backward. I went back and forth on the Chards. I strongly preferred all three (06 Alpine, 10 Horseshoe, 11 Horseshoe) to the 11 Mt. Eden. The 01 Home Pinot was also very tasty. I liked the (recalled) 09 Family Farm Pinot, though some including Kevin found it fatally flawed by Brett.

The historic Alpine vertical 2006 (magnum!) 07 08 09 10 greatly suffered coming after some unusual intellect-triggering wines. Alpine is great but not sexy. Lotsa sexy on the table. For the opposite reason the Horseshoes suffered, softer than the greatest wines, but that's my view of all Rhys 09's.

The only red wine at young peak was the 01 Home. All of the rest will improve, except possibly the Horseshoes.

Kevin said something very interesting and encouraging. I think he said he's never seen a wine where the stems never eventually integrated.
I suspect he's never had Prieure Roch.

None of the Rhyses was too stemmy which was a big surprise for me.

I'm so biased in favor of Swan Terrace that I'm not going to rate them nor state my wines of the night.

Skyline is from another planet. The aromatics of the 08 were insane.

But...Swan Terrace.

Chards: the 2010 Horseshoe was on a much higher level than all of the others.

The Mount Eden was singing at the end of the night.

Nice to have a snapshot of all these wines, but impossible to really follow them properly. Impressive and fun, though.

Not sure which Rhys pick was delayed by the rain. My friend Rob, who's joined our group a couple times and was a 2016 Rhys intern, had his main Mindego Ridge pick delayed. That's just north of Alpine on the same soil type. So, early morning text and I was off to help him crush. The folks dropped off his grapes on the way to Kutch with the rest. Expect another good Rhys vintage, if I can extrapolate...
