For hipsters who don’t use email and internet, do you spring for certified mail when responding with orders for highly allocated wines?J a y H a c k wrote: ↑June 19th, 2019, 7:04 pm I got the notice TODAY in the mail, postmarked June 6. No wine for me.

I have probably had an email account since before you were born, but this one either never came or was trapped by my security software.James Kennedy wrote: ↑June 19th, 2019, 9:40 pmFor hipsters who don’t use email and internet, do you spring for certified mail when responding with orders for highly allocated wines?J a y H a c k wrote: ↑June 19th, 2019, 7:04 pm I got the notice TODAY in the mail, postmarked June 6. Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
I’m actually kind of proud of myself as I let the 3 notices that I haven’t yet ordered come and go without actually ordering. I’m sure it’s great wine and I’m certainly curious, but i decided I’d rather have 4 $70 750 ml bottles of (insert many options here).

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
My maggie showed up today. How should one store a magnum of Champagne? Upright or on its side? I don't have an "angled" option in my offsite.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
Dilemma since it's 1 per person, in magnum only:
1. drink young, get a feel for style, inform future purchase decisions..
or
2. hold for age, but buying blind.
assuming the
3. find someone else who will open one
option is not readily available.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
That’s not an awful price for mags; the thing w champs mags is that they’re really 2x a 750, look at the pricing of 2008 dom mags.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
Based on multiple threads on this, apparently both options are correct, and both are incorrect.

It pretty much doesn't matter. Many champagne producers store upright.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
This is exactly why I passed, if they had offered it in 750’s I’d have bought and already have opened one to boot! I am anxious to hear an impression though, so somebody should get to popping.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
I do hope some people open theirs soon and post notes. Personally, I wouldn't be aging something like this that I had never tried and has no track record.

It would be great if you could make it, but that is a rough weekend for socializing. Pouring for a dinner at the Modernist Cuisine Lab on Friday. Wine release Sat. Flying to Florida on Sunday. I first heard about this Champagne project years ago, I've been dying to try it so I doubt I'll be able to keep my hands off that long anywayjeffruggels wrote: ↑November 7th, 2019, 9:44 pm at the Kobayashi release event? for your possibly visiting friend from So Cal?

What is happening on 11/22? I had my last pick yesterday so I'm still focused on other things.
What about tonight at my place?

Mine arrived yesterday. Earmarked for New Years but would love to get a sneak peek if a group gets together in Seattle.

I'd also love to try it if there's an impromptu meetup tonight. Happy to bring something nice, though I don't know if I'll top that Perret Chery I brought to the last offline.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
What better way to celebrate last pick yesterday than with a mag of Christophe Baron. Impromptu bottle share happening tonight @6pm. Pm for address. BYOB No theme. BYO stem. Food is tricky since it is short notice and I have no idea how many people will show, so maybe grab a bite before you arrive - or bring a hunk of cheese, salami or ??? And we’ll have some snacks. We’ll get a group tasting note up tonight.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
Classic Grower champagne? It’s good but I find the finish a bit short compare to say a Krug or selosse. But certainly delish. I would hold a few years to see development and I expect it to improve.
Thanks for sharing Travis! That and the ToL maG. Drool.

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
The champagne was incredible - the fact that Mark went straight to comparing to Krug and Selosse is telling although because the Christophe Baron is Brut Nature it is a totally different experience (I have not had Selosse enough times to have a handle on their style anyway). It had billowing aromatics and a citrus rind extract that was almost mouthwateringly savory. I revisited a few times in between some of the killer reds and whites we had open, and it improved over the course of the evening. When you look at the empty bottle test, the Christophe Baron was drained when there were still half full bottles of about 10 other incredible wines on the table - and it was a MAG. I love the fact that it is mag only. Hopefully I'll get to try this bottle again, and I look forward to future releases. Great seeing everyone!

To be fair, my notes are subpar. With the mag of Transmigration of Light staring at me, I couldn’t concentrate or focus all night.Travis @llen wrote: ↑November 10th, 2019, 8:53 am The champagne was incredible - the fact that Mark went straight to comparing to Krug and Selosse is telling although because the Christophe Baron is Brut Nature it is a totally different experience

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
Thanks for the notes, 2014 is my youngest granddaughters birth year so she gets one, will probably open the other next June for 50th anniversary

Re: Champagne Christophe Baron
Thanks for taking one for the team, Travis, very generous of you. It's fantastic to have a reference point on a wine none of us have tried. Sounds like good stuff!
