I'll ask for people to confirm in early February now that we have a firm date.

I just found a WS 1993 Rochioli in my cellar I did not know I had. Well then.

Three bottles of 1995 Burt WS Pinot just sold today for over $250 per bottle plus commission plus tax plus shipping at K and L. One was Allen but none were Rochioli. A bottle of 1993 WS Cohn went for around $200 on WS last week.

I extrapolate this to Allen and Rochioli being over $300 per bottle from now on. So that means I just learned I am unlikely ever to backfill after this dinner, which makes it likely this will be the last Burt dinner I organize, which makes it even more special that Blake is bringing members of Burt's family this time.

As for wait list, having 13 people plus Blake, and Burt's daughters, is in theory the max. The room holds more but a bottle does not. There is no point in speculating until the event is a lot nearer. In theory it would make sense to limit it to people who bring Burt wines, but that would mean a total of maybe five people. I don't think I've ever had waitlisters shut out from a dinner I organized until this dinner. We will see.

Idea, George:
Maybe we waitlisters (Andrew, Ian, Glenn, Kurt, Robert) host our own JV offline at the bowling alley next door? I'm just sorry I can't help drink your '93 Rochioli.

Just a thought: I don't have to taste every wine, and would be happy to skip some bottles if that lets a few more people in who really want to be there. With efficient small pours (we'd have to enforce that with beakers, or maybe even have someone pour the most desirable bottles to everyone), you can make 20+ work.

I pm'd George about beakers (George, read your email!) . It makes total sense to have one person pour a particular bottle for the entire table to keep the sediment factor down.

I'm thinking of like a "subscription service", where you tip your pourer for the best bottles. I'm planning to wear clothing with extra large pockets.

Yes. And having individuals go around and pour the small flights should be a lot quicker and more efficient than what happened at the Rhys dinner, where half the table were ready to move onto the *next* flight before the other half even got a pour.

I'd also recommend standardized marking of the glasses with Sharpie pens. (That comes right off with a scrubber sponge.)

If it helps, I can bring 6 pourer inserts that control the pour, but are set at 1 1/2 ounces, not at 1. Still, they could reduce way over pouring. One issue is they require turning the bottle completely upside down which could results in some sediment joining in as well although that's not a big issue with the Pinots; more-so with the Zins.

We use the method where one person pours using a 50ml beaker. With that, we can keep the pour at ~30ml for 20 people. The entire time, that person keeps the bottle in a near-horizontal position. We've found it's the best way for keeping as much sediment as possible in the bottle.

BTW, Katie is bringing a mag of 95` WS Summa and I'll also bring a mag of champagne and we won't have a problem with pour allocations on at least 2 bottles.

You're definitely in if you re-confirm later.

I think I'll ask for definite confirmations in a week or so, earlier than I'd prefer. Plans change in the Bay Area, especially people with jobs or kids or illnesses, very quickly.

Thanks for organizing, George. I just found out I'll be in town that week for meetings and would love to attend. Could I get on the waitlist? Burt-era Selyem wines are among the best Pinot experiences I've ever had. WS was the first list I joined when I was 21! I could bring an 80s or 90s CA Pinot.

We are at sixteen. We will go ahead with sixteen and beakers for the WS 750's. There will be tons of other wine, no beakers for those. If someone who has confirmed cancels, the waitlist moves.
