Pils and a local dark beer. Czech beer is gluggable.

A slew of Tree House regulars like Green, Julius, Bright (w citra and w Nelson), but the current batch of Curiosity 80 and Super Treat are really great. Both are juicy, super fluffy and smooth with Super Treat having a cotton candy type flavor to it and Curiosity 80 having a bit more chewy floral hop to it. All excellent.

...and you can pretty much drink it all night and not feel like shit in the morning. Nothing like 4-5% alcohol beers to make the morning feel better.

Found a Pilsner Urquell brewpub and spent a couple of hours doing damage to their tanks. Server offered an “unfruitful” which I think was “unfiltered.” Great beer.

Floodland to me is one of the easiest drinking / best barrel aged sour producers in the country (SARA gets a heavy nod).
This is Transmigration of Light - likely their most famous/sought after bottle. In Magnum, which there are probably single digit bottles of them left in existence. Travis was nice enough to share it.

All of their “xyz Light” series of beers are Stone fruit based (peach/nectarine etc) and are basically liquid coke (not the soft drink). ;)

Fieldwork Brewing. Pulp. IPA 6.9% ABV. Hopped entirely with Citra hops. I totally lucked out last week when I walked into the Bottlecraft location in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego and found cans of this in the cooler. This IPA for some reason has avoided me because I would never avoid it. It's garnered legendary status in the IPA geekdom world over the last couple years and Fieldwork doesn't distribute cans into So Ca so my experience has been the odd taster with my beer group's tastings. Now with two four packs in the fridge I can finally sit with this and see for myself what the ruckus is all about. Just by the appearance you know this is a well made hazy IPA, it pours a gorgeous milky orange color with a wispy white head of foam. The nose is insane, it smells like you took the freshest summer orange citrus fruits and pulverized them into a bowl and then stuck your schnoz deep into said bowl, I've never smelled a more orange driven beer before and there is ZERO fruit adjuncts, this is just Citra hops. Flavors follow the nose to a tee, it's straight up oranges, most dominantly tangerine's. All these delicious orange flavors are balanced out on a clean crisp dry body that flows into a very long juicy bittersweet finish. I've had a few IPA's over the years and examples like this are very rare indeed, this very well could be the best single hopped IPA I've had or damn close to it.

Highly Recommended,

Cheers,

Bud

Totally agree and we will do some damage there tonight. That said... my wife was drinking bad pinot, rather than beer and was more interested in the experience :)

We did the coast breweries Thursday evening and Friday. In Astoria we had apps and two off Buoy's taproom list. Melinda had 8 oz of Decapitator Barrel-aged Doppelbock for $10 or $12 and I had a 12 oz Single Hop El Dorado that honestly was meh. Food; however, was anything but meh as we had fantastic fried oysters and really interesting pickled prawns. We decided to drive over to Ft George and enjoyed a 1001 Years of Silence and a Copperplate. Both beers were really great but the food was better at Buoy. My local seasonal Autumn beer is Oktobier from Seven Devils and I'd love to have one next to Copperplate. I'm not sure which is really best but Copperplate is certainly a great example of the style. Ft George loves to bring samples to the table!

Next day we hit the road just before Reach Break opened but that place looks like fun in great weather, cool food trucks onsite for sure.

We detoured slightly to Pacific City and hit Pelican Brewing, which has been an Oregon mainstay twenty-plus years now. Mel had two Mother of All Storms (barrel-aged Barleywine) and I had a Dankzilla, my favorite beer of the journey. Food very solid at Pelican while not as interesting as Buoy.

People were great at all 3 places and sadly we drove past De Garde before they opened on Friday. It's my destiny to never darken their doors.

While cooking - Reuben’s BBIS (bourbon barrel imperial stout). Good showing, but not fantastic; reminds me of just about every other entry in this category. Not bad, by any means, but not sure I’d do cartwheels for it again.

Tried a couple and came home with 2 4pks of

Maybe because it was good but also our dog is named Willow!
We went there 3 times on our Colorado concert trip. Love their beers and brought 2 cases home.

Andrew, that was hopped with lots of Nelson with Citra and Centennial. I look at this more as a hybrid west coast east coast beer. I liked it but was hoping for a real west coast IPA.

Weird can from MT. Got irritated at first, as Blazing Worlds has always been an Amber (to the best of my knowledge). In fact, the label UNDER this label... is an amber ale label. This has a second label that reads “Dank Nelson IPA.”

Fairly regular IPA, although I do love Nelson hops. Curious as to why they’d jack the brand though? If you can name a beer after a bunch of birds popping up, why recycle something that’s already in market?

Liquid Flows, DDH DIPA, 8.5% ABV. Hopped entirely with Nelson Sauvin hops from Freestyle Farms in New Zealand. As an unabashed Nelson Sauvin whore my favorite beer Henry brews at Monkish is Broadcasting Live, a 100% Nelson hopped DIPA. He basically takes that and DDH's it and we have Liquid Flows, everything that is gloriously Nelson amped up to 11. Dank and earthy with massive pineapple papaya and sweet mango. It's Nelson on the next level. Available at the brewery for growler fills.

Highly Recommended,

Cheers,

Bud

Weird can from MT. Got irritated at first, as Blazing Worlds has always been an Amber (to the best of my knowledge). In fact, the label UNDER this label... is an amber ale label. This has a second label that reads “Dank Nelson IPA.”

Fairly regular IPA, although I do love Nelson hops. Curious as to why they’d jack the brand though? If you can name a beer after a bunch of birds popping up, why recycle something that’s already in market?
I thought the same thing when I got the email about the re-boot. I thought maybe they were tweaking with the recipe. Now I think they're trying to move slow moving shelfy's with new can art to make way for new beers. As much as I like MT, outside of beers like Space Ways I exclusively buy the special release stuff, the mass market stuff is OK but not that impactful IMHO, I imagine it was what Glenn was referring to in his post above.

Cheers,

Bud

Agreed, which is why I get excited about the collabs/special releases. That said, this is bush league at its finest and they’re muddying the brand. Blazing Worlds is one of their always on cans and is, irritatingly, one of the few I can find on local shelves. Literally labeled over existing cans and you can see “amber ale” (see pic below), which makes me wonder if it’s a reboot or if they have financial problems because of the expansions.

We see a lot of MT, I’m batting ~ .500 with them.
I’m not a huge fan of what I see on the store shelves. Have tried Ghost Mountain a couple of times now and it’s not my jam. Telesto is o.k., but really enjoyed Space Ways. We’ll see what’s in the care package in 90 mins :)
I agree re: Telesto and Ghost Mountain and Space Ways. And I agree with Bud that, typically, the best way to go about MT's IPAs is to get the limited releases. Not really digging where they've pushed their prices to, either; they're slowly losing me now that their limited releases are about $6 can --- it sucks buying 2 four packs and having the total, after tax, be more than $50.

Had a few good beer days this week:

Went to Scorched Earth Brewery last weekend and brought home this sour. Very sour, but good.
Made Chili this week with a KBS and drank another KBS.
Went to Goose Island before Black Friday (more on BF to come). Had a Strawberry Cream Ale, and a 2018 BCBS.

I hear you Brian. The escalated pricing over the last year is alarming, the recent "Birds" collab with Other Half was $26 per four pack, Monkish has yet to crack that barrier, actually Henry has rolled back a lot of four packs to $22. More worrisome to me is the ABV's are getting higher and higher each month resulting in some beers that are just too sweet to drink more than an eight ounce pour. I am curious to try the new Mega Space Ways, of all the seasonal beers I think Space Ways is the QPR winner, what will it taste like at an 8+ABV DIPA ? I'll let you know.

Cheers,

Bud

Jacob's aggressive expansion plans are of concern absolutely.

Drinking the Visible World DIPA, weighing in at 9.5%. Definitely on the sweet side, with a little Orange Julius on top, and it hides the alcohol well.

Can art is pretty cool, as well.

100% Mosaic addition to the line-up; 8.5% DIPA, but a shot of pine on the first sip before it dips into sweet, tropical fruit land.

RAPID UNPLANNED DISASSEMBLY DIPA
If the words “100% Mosaic DIPA” get you all hot and bothered, we have very little doubt that this beer is going to be your jam. Brewed with borderline-ridiculous amounts of these wondrous little hops (including 7lbs/bbl in the dry-hop!), this hazy marvel sings its love for Mosaic from the rooftops.
ABV: 8.5%
Format: 4-Pack of 16oz Cans
Price: $23.75
Total Quantity: 2,500

My favorite hoppy November on line release. I liked that they kept the ABV under 9% ! Mosaic bomb !
