I went by my local Popeye's at lunch today. I swore I'd never darken their doors again due to their piss poor service but you guys have been raving about this sandwich so I thought I'd give it a try. They were out of the chicken sandwich along with french fries, sprite and couple of other items I fail to recall as I was spinning on my heels and heading right back out the door empty handed. I should have known better than to open their front door again. Shame on me.

We had some tonight, like 10 min wait but the sandwiches we bought were the last ones in the store. I think it lives up to the hype but I wouldn’t have been happy to have waited hours for it.

Drove back to Nashville from Birmingham today and saw a sign for Popeyes...figured I would stop. No line and ordered the sandwich...out in under two minutes.

For $4, it is a great sandwich...chicken was moist, generous piece. and good flavor...I could go for more spice. Much prefer over ChikFilA.

I stopped by my regular place yesterday around 12:45 and there was a line out the door. I went to the cheesesteak place instead. I’ll try today around 11.

I took a PTO day to run errands today and there was no line when I passed by my local Popeyes at 11:00am. Very good sandwich, great value.

I'll confirm the positive comments above. Finally got to taste it (the spicy version). Basically a crlispy chicken breast on a brioche type bun with some hot? sauce smeared onto the bun. What's not to like? Good quality; good portion; good taste. Price is a bargain. Not that experienced with Chick Fil A....but....have liked Chick Fil A a lot less when I've tried it.

Oh, and two weeks ago, i finally got to try In and Out burgers....IMO, better than most "fast food" burgers. (Had the fries extra cooked...and they were too crispy to taste any potato). I'd take 5 guys over In and Out every time...though. Is 5 guys "fast food"? I guess....but a different quality (and price level) from In and Out. The meat at both places was serviceable and pleasing. 5 Guys' fries can't be beat, though, IMO.

Not me :-(

I showed up at 10:55 and there were about 20 people lined up outside (and more inside as they opened at 10:45). I went and had Taiwanese beef noodle soup instead. I’m just going to wait until the short-timers get over this.

Of course. Its obvious that anyone would kill for a Popeye's chicken sandwich or someone getting in the way of having one. Chick-fil-A has to be wondering if God does not love them anymore.

Finally tried it and came away really unimpressed. Under seasoned, forgettable, bolt on sauce. Not worth the hype and not as good as Chick-fil-A

Just had the Popeyes chicken sandwich. It beats the national foodie hype.
My wife waited in a long line for fifteen minutes. As a prank, I was about to pretend being a stranger who cut in front of her, as she neared the order staff. However, all the anxious people behind her might have missed the joke, leading to another sandwich-stabbing mortality. Food to die for, but not that way. Indeed, given the violence reported at some Popeyes locations, we deliberately ate mobster style......backs facing the wall, ready to flip and duck under the table, or to scramble like lightning.

I thought it was bigger and juicier than Chick Fil A, but the regular sandwich was relatively bland. Prefer CFA on that one.

The spicy was pretty good with nice kick. Candidly, however, I would rather have their normal fried chicken.

I'm sure there are others, here in NYC, who complained that Popeyes scrimped and could have put a full instead of just a half joint.

I finally settled down to give one a try while getting my oil changed Sunday. I was one of the first customers in an empty restaurant-no line, no hassles.

I like it. I think the bun is ok, not the best but not terrible. Nice spice to the sauce which has a dry cayenne note.

I still prefer the Wendy's one, and they're currently on sale 2 for $5. The Wendy's version tastes like the meat is marinated in hot sauce, and it's definitely got more spice through and through. I mean all the way through! I was feeling it the next day after eating two. [wow.gif]

Never had Chic-Fil-A nor Popeyes sandwich. Neither have a restaurant in Napa. I did like the Burger King Fire Cracker Chicken sandwich but as usual, if I like something it is discontinued. An obvious indication that I am not qualified foodie.

I finally got to try the Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich last night. My wife and I were both impressed. The bun is very good, the chicken was large, moist, and tasty, and I don't think you'll find a better $4 chicken sandwich in the country. I'll get it again.

Got ours yesterday in Jacksonville Beach on the long slog back to Charleston. I actually would have enjoyed a bit more spice, but the red beans and rice fixed all wrongs! [cheers.gif]

I tried the classic the other day and found it good but not impressive. When they ran out a few months ago I bought some chicken breasts there and made my own with a brioche bun. Much better than theirs. May try the spicy version soon....... or just do my own again with sriracha.

Sold out but tried the fish. The tartar sauce wasn’t bad and made a surprisingly decent fish sandwich when assembled with a bakery sourced Portuguese roll.

Stopped into my local the other day and they finally somewhat figured out production. They had two people solely on making sandwiches. One was buttering the buns and putting them through the toaster and the other was assembling. Pretty obvious from my 10 minutes of watching though that their toaster capacity is not adequate though, industrial it was not.

Sandwich was great, needed more sauce of course but you can’t get that crunch anywhere else.

The roll is typically 60% of a sandwiches quality. Not the best recommendation.

While I do like Popeye's (my wife and I are guilty of having Popeyes and Champagne here and there), I don't really get ordering a fried chicken sandwich when there is just plain ol' fried chicken available (as opposed to somewhere like Sun of a Gun when you're not in the mood for seafood). I'd rather have less bred and more chicken + breading.
Hard to eat fried chicken while riding in the car, for one. Gets fingers greasy, which isn’t alway a good thing, depending on your situation. That all said, would be really cool if Chick-fil-A tried fried chicken.
I don't eat in my car for some reason, but this is a good point.
Did you see Green Book? They figured it out.

I finally had a chance to eat at Popeyes yesterday. I was surprised how good their sandwich is. It's not what they serve at other fast food joints. Once a year, when I'm in Atlanta for a trade show, one of the showrooms serves Chic-fil a for lunch. I thought that was pretty good until I tasted Popeyes. The CFA is more like a chicken patty. Popeyes is nice and crunchy. Not greasy. I thought my Popeyes experience was a one-off. Guess not. [wink.gif]

I had my first Popeye's chicken sandwich as well on Jan. 1 (in the Yakima, WA location, of all places...shocker, zero line). Anyway, I was quite impressed. It was delicious. The red beans and rice was super tasty, too. My wife, who really doesn't like fast food, commented that the bite I gave her was really good. For the rare indulgence, I'll be going back.

I'm thinking about what this would be like paired with Champagne. flirtysmile
