Well this is very depressing for me in Dayton, Ohio. We just got our first Costco store a year ago. There are a couple of interesting spanish wines, but nothing comes close to what's on this thread. They have the low priced junk that every supermarket has and then maybe 20 higher end bottles, but nothing >$69.

just head down a few aisles, pick up some yeast, and you're good to go. nothing quite like a welch's wine made at home.

White Burgundy (beyond things like Jadot Puilly Fuisse and the occasional no-name Chablis) is something I've hardly ever seen at any Costco over many years. Interesting those would end up there.

Back to the matter at hand, the Irvine (Technology Drive) Costco has 2016 Potensac for $28. I actually opened one to check it out, and it drinks quite well now, with some room to improve over the medium term. I went back for some more.

They also Frescobaldi Massovivo Ammiraglia 2016 on a store coupon for $9. It's a Toscana vermentino, and it sells for low $20s most places and gets good marks on CT in a small number of reviews. I haven't tried it yet, but I bought five.

So i just took a trip down to So cal (I live in Nor Cal) with my wife. We stopped by several cities on our way, also visiting several Costco stores (for gas + checking out wine selections).

1) Salinas, CA -> Mostly Junk. Few Paso Robles selections not found elsewhere

2) Ventura, CA -> better. but not any different than typical Bay Area ones

3) Santa Barbara -> Few nice Italian Brunello

4) Pismo beach -> Similar to Ventura level

5) South SF -> I ended up buying 3 x 2015 dame de montrose ($39) and 1 x sparrow hawk reserve cab (2015) for $29.

Moral of the story -> more expensive area/town you live in, better (?) more expensive wine selections at local costco

I could have told you that.

I live in between the Danville Costco (very high end) and the Concord one (not so much).

Danville has about twice the wine selection and much more good stuff.

And sometimes when they have the same wines, Danville charges a few dollars more.

Arv I'm at the RWC one weekly and can tell you that the selection at the Mountain View Costco is WAY better. I have found some good stuff at RWC but nothing like MTV. Go have a look!

Also I know one of the independent wine reps for Costco's stores covering MTV down to Santa Cruz (unfortunately not covering RWC) and he said the MTV store is going to be going all in for Xmas, and to expect some pretty amazing stuff.... since he doens't work for Costco he doesn't know exactly what they ordered but knows they are planning on going high end for Xmas given the area they are in. Afraid RWC isn't doing the same thing. Guess time will tell!

There has been a very slight change in the last 12 mos or so between RWC and MV. We moved here in 2011 and up to recently RWC always had the better selection. Though even today there is not much difference with the exception of the high end case at MV. I know the wine steward at MV and he said the opposite; they are not bringing nearly as much stuff over the holidays this year and in particular they are paring back the big bottles. To be seen.

SODO Seattle yesterday (this is just off the top of my head, may not be 100% accurate):

2016 Pontet Canet $150
2016 Palmer $320
2016 Calon Segur $120
2016 Nenin $70
2016 Clerc Milon $70
2016 Reserve de la Comtesse $44
2016 Croix de Beaucaillou $50 (one bottle left)

Plus all the usual WA reds. Also a big table display of large-formats that I hadn't seen before, mostly WA and CA from what I recall.

The Pentagon City store never has anything of interest. I don't understand it; the DC area is one of the best wine markets in the country. 09 Dom last time I was there, but so far as I know they have never had the 08. And the rest of the stuff they have is mass market

Kailua-Kona store had a full pallet end cap today of 2014 Conn Creek Anthology @ $49.99. Nary a bottle missing, so I took one out of sympathy....I’ve loved the Right Bank Red and Reserve Cab in the past, don’t know this cuvée at all though. Also dropped a full pallet of 2013 Northstar Merlot CV for $29.99.

I picked up a 2017 Domaine Denante Saint Veran,
@ $16.79 made it a great qpr, it drank great tonight w/ Chablis like minerality and bright fruit ....I’ll go back for a case of this.

Also they finally broke out of their stunted bubbles offerings and islanded 4 pallets of Mumms Brut Rose @$16.79 , Mumms Brut, and, finally, Roederer Estate Brut for $20.99 (4 cases, yes please!)
I was growing disenchanted with the Kirkland Champagne over the last couple of years so it’s great to have 20 buck options for everyday drinkers other than the plonky Proseccos.

Finally the 08 Dom has landed in ATL. $141.79 plus our county tax which is the lowest in the area. Cumberland store in Atlanta. This is a very good price. I picked up a couple to add to my stash.

Ya, usually things arrive later in Pentagon city. I expect we will get 08 dom quite late. There are some interesting things in the case from time to time, but never that impressive. They do get some fun magnums and double magnums in december though.

But overall I agree, can't believe we dont get more good stuff

Interesting turn of events! Will be interesting to see what happens in both MTV and RWC for the holidays.

I just want RWC to up their game, its too much effort for me to go down to MTV. I still haven't been back to MTV to see if they ever sold that Petrus or that 4-pack of Cheval.

RWC did get a whole pallet of 09 Dom, which was nice.

2008 Dom Perignon was at the local Carlsbad location. It was $148+tax. When I found the stack, I thought it was just '09s, but when I looked behind there were plenty of '08s.

The Pentagon City store never has anything of interest. I don't understand it; the DC area is one of the best wine markets in the country. 09 Dom last time I was there, but so far as I know they have never had the 08. And the rest of the stuff they have is mass market
Good to know, although disappointing. I won't undertake the burden of going out there to try to find parking . . .

Kirkland Champagne $19.99 - I picked up a bottle and shared it with my wife who loves champagne.

She said she didn't care for it, that it didn't have much going on.

I liked it a little better but it wasn't distinctive at all. Just smooth and bubbly.

Much prefer the Roederer Estate or the Schramsburg Mirablle Brut Rose for about the same price.

A friend stopped by the RWC store today, they had a 6L Imperial of Chateau Giscours 2016 and a couple other magnums of decent 2016 Bordeaux (I think they were both "2nd wines" but forget).

Finally the 08 Dom has landed in ATL. $141.79 plus our county tax which is the lowest in the area. Cumberland store in Atlanta. This is a very good price. I picked up a couple to add to my stash.
They didn’t have it at Brookhaven yesterday but had at least 6 bottles at $149.99 at the Peachtree-Dunwoody store yesterday. I took those 6 and didn’t ask whether they have any left.

Costco here on Long Island does not sell wine, but I asked my daughter in Minnesota to check her Costco for 2008 Dom Pérignon and they had it for $149.99. Higher than some other Costco's that I am seeing here, but I still asked her to get me a couple.

I think each one has its own wine buyer or wine program. There are a bunch of Costcos around Orange County, largely serving a similar demographic, and yet they vary widely in terms of the quantity and quality of different wines they offer.

Sure, a significant part of it is the same from one to the next (the mid and lower priced supermarket wines), but as far as the kinds of stuff we around here would care about, it varies a great deal from one to the next. There's no real rhyme or reason to it from the perspective of the customer. You just have to figure out which ones are more likely to offer things of interest, and go to those - and even then, they'll vary a decent amount from one month to the next in terms of what they have.

I think you’re thinking of Anderson’s Conn Valley Right Bank and Reserve Cab. Conn Creek is a different producer.
You're getting Conned.
