Re: Ravenswood library offer
Been buying from O & F since day one and I got skunked on this one, but there will always be another good wine to buy. Always.

Re: Ravenswood library offer
Isn't the provenance "sitting in a Constellation warehouse"?
Granted, I trust Joel, and if he says the wines are good then I believe they are good, but this wasn't from some cave in Burgundy.

Didn't he say all of the 80s vintages and on were in temp controlled storage?

Yes. I am just not one to place great faith in mega-wine-distributor assertions, even when through a trusted person.

I guess I didn’t look at the details close enough David, that’s on me.D@vid Bu3ker wrote: ↑October 16th, 2019, 2:22 amJoel made it clear in the announcement that it was first come, first served for limited wines.Mike Maguire wrote: ↑October 15th, 2019, 9:43 pmI was traveling most of the day and didn’t check my email til 3pm, nothing to buy.Have bought every offering of O&F since the beginning. One of the newbies can have my spot I guess.
Re: Ravenswood library offer
How do the O&F offerings differ from Ravenswood and Bedrock, stylistically? I've seen comments elsewhere that the O&F may not be able to go the distance we may see with this offering?

Re: Ravenswood library offer
I would place O&F at a spot directly between Ravenswood and Bedrock.
As for aging, anyone who tries to tell you that they know O&F wines won’t go the distance is talking out of their ass. At best, Joel Peterson knows more about winemaking with zin and related grapes than almost anyone on the planet. At worst, he’s an incredibly gifted winemaker with a serious track record.
How long they can age probably depends on how you like your wine.

Re: Ravenswood library offer
I can’t comment on Ravenswood, but I would say generally O&F are more restrained than Bedrock. They have complexity, but may not have some of the fruit driven profiles of Morgan’s wine. Their are exceptions though. I thought the Sangiacomo Merlot was excellent young, but had layers that I am sure would further emerge with time. The Petite Sirah is excellent as well. I like Bedrock’s Zins better for the vibrancy.
It’s hard to compare and contrast though. It’s like asking someone to describe color.

Opened a 2015 O&F Mataro last night ... delicious and interesting, evolved nicely during the evening ... glad I have a few bottles because it was really wonderful wine.

Re: Ravenswood library offer
So first off, Erika has been incredible in regards to customer service and helped me out early on as for some reason I was not receiving the emails even though I have ordered since the first O&F release. After getting that straightened out, I placed my order for some 87 Sonoma zin, 94 Petite Sirah, and 94 icon roughly 9 minutes after the offer came out and figured I was good to go since they showed available....but when I later looked closer at the response that I received....it mentioned my 'wish list' was ordered .
Obviously not what I was hoping to see, and Erika confirmed that they must have been sold out so it defaulted to wish-list. Thought I ordered pretty early but I guess not
anyone else have a similar situation?
All that being said.....anyone in AZ snag a few bottles and interested in popping one with a big zin/Ravenswood fan??

Rich,
All the Old Hill bottles that were in my cart one minute, ended up on wish list. It’s just how fast it was moving.
Still snagged some cool stuff. Happy to share if anyone makes it to Connecticut.

I had the same happen...ordered but most went to "wish list." Oh well, even though I ordered within 5 minutes of the offer...I should have been quicker!
Since I live in Chicagoland, AlexS was kind enough to share but at the end of the day, I am fine with my 4 bottles. Having said that, I will be checking for any Chicagoland offlines that should materialize ; )
Cheers,

Re: Ravenswood library offer
I had a list of exactly what I wanted, it wasn't long, I logged in at the open, entered the wines I wanted and ordered within a couple minutes and got half. To get Old Hill or MR you probably needed to order those minute one.
Rich
I got a couple of the 94 PS. If you can make it to SD in next year or two PM me. If they are in the same universe as the 94 Dunn PS they'll be a real treat.
And Erika was awesome. When I saw wines got waitlisted and I accidentally ordered one incorrectly she responded to my emails within minutes. She was quick, clear and accurate.

Thanks guys - bummed you missed out on some wines as well, but appreciate the confirmation that it was a common theme.
David and David, thank you for the offers fellas! I might take you up on that if I make it out to Connecticut or San Diego

There was a followup message from Joel Peterson saying there would be another sale and that there would be lower allocations for that to spread the joy a bit further. Looking forward to that ... I was tied up in work meetings and missed out myself.

I emailed yesterday to ask about shipping. Got a reply that they are being sent next week.
One or two of these will be opened on Thanksgiving.

Re: Ravenswood library offer
I inquired, and Erika replied:
"We estimated on the release info that we expect shipments to go out around the 2 to 3rd week of November, weather permitting. I am personally pulling all the individual wines to stage them for our fulfillment department and, unfortunately we lost a couple of days due to power outage and mandatory evacuations (Kincade Fire). But I am still shooting for that time frame. I know many would like their wines in time for Thanksgiving."
Great service and responsiveness from her, as others have mentioned.

Re: Ravenswood library offer
I was at an HVS tasting last night in Sonoma. Joel was pouring his O&F wines but had a magnum of ‘99 Old Hill on the back counter. I asked him who I had to kiss to get a pour of it. He told me it was corked. Crap. He lamented that he should have brought a back-up.
Nose was destroyed but the palate was fresh and lively. Be happy if you were able to snag one.

Based on my communications with them, it sounds like this is a very small operation, with one person being essentially responsible for all of the picking, packaging, and shipment. I would not be the least bit surprised if these went out in a number of “waves.“

What’s baffling is that they left my three orders, which added up to 12 bottles, as three separate packages. Three separate tracking numbers. Ah well.
