Re: Ravenswood library offer
My love for zin dates back to 90’s Ravenswood zins. This is quite exciting. I hope Joel limits guaranteed purchase amounts to allow more people to participate. Wishlisting seems prudent.

Thanks for the quick reply Joel. We’re all looking forward to this one.Joel Peterson wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2019, 9:39 pmHi Carroll, Joel here, We will be sending out a list of the wines a couple of days before the release that should help you develop a game plan.J Carroll wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2019, 7:12 pm It would be nice to get a heads up post here the day before this goes live, aka Morgan style, so we can all put together some sort of game plan. It just won’t be fun frantically adding items to the cart just hoping it won’t sell out before paying. I might not be able to sleep till the 15th.

There will be a bottle purchase limit on each wine David. That limit will be between 2 and 6 bottles depending on the availability of a particular wine.

Joel, thanks for doing this. Many of us grew up on your wines and are now immersed in your son’s wines. I guess I had not been reading the right threads, as I did not know this - i.e., “Once and Future” - was your new winery. Kudos.

Ditto. I remember visiting in the late 80's and always had Ravenswood as one of the places to stop at. The Pickberry was one of my favorites along with the zins. Very happy to see Joel and Morgan producing great wine and preserving history!Robert.A.Jr. wrote: ↑October 5th, 2019, 5:39 am Joel, thanks for doing this. I hope there are a few 1997s in there. I still fondly recall Joel grabbing barrel samples for me to taste when I visited in 1998.

Wow, I cut my teeth on those Ravenswood Zins but drank them all within 5-10 years of the vintage. What a treat to have a chance to be able to go back and revisit them in maturity! Thanks to Joel once again, and to Wine Berserkers for making me aware of the opportunity.

Got to try the 94 RW Monte Rosso Zin at a Bedrock tasting a few years back. Extremely interesting wine. By far the oldest zin I've ever had. Still very clearly a zin, decent amount of fruit left, but with a lot of aged cab like features starting to show, leather, tobacco, spice. Count me in.

94 MR Zin is an incredible wine and drinking so well/youthful right now. Had it twice last year - note below as part of a blind tasting.MBerto wrote: ↑October 10th, 2019, 12:34 pm Got to try the 94 RW Monte Rosso Zin at a Bedrock tasting a few years back. Brief notes - part of larger blind tasting. The ringer in a blind flight with 2012 Bedrock and Carlisle Monte Rosso. This wine was drinking really well with juicy raspberry, and slight earth notes adding interest on the finish. Medium minus bodied, mouth-watering acidity, and a nice hint of secondary characteristics....but not the point where it seemed out of place next to the younger MR zins. Kind of a mix between a lighter zin and an older cab. Great wine that belies it age. One member called it double blind that the wines tasted like they were from the same vineyard or maybe same winemaker. Pretty damn impressive. Really fun to taste all these MR wines side-by-side.

The story made it sound like he rescued them off the scrap pile, so I’m hoping if that’s the case prices will be very fair?

Re: Ravenswood library offer
I guess it really depends on which bottle. Also as mentioned above Joel made it seem like the bottles were saved from being thrown away so I'm going to say $20 a bottle

Re: Ravenswood library offer
Yes, it will depend on which bottle. Some will be under $50, and some will be over $50. That could be a reasonable "average" amount...or perhaps a bit less...
Cheers,
JP
Re: Ravenswood library offer
If it’s $20 I’ll be backing up the truck... $50 I’ll pick and choose my spots... much more than that and I’ll still be getting some. It’s a rare opportunity.

Guess away, folks . . .
And my impression with older zins in general is that they lose their 'zin exuberance' and remind me more of aged clarets. Anyone else experience this?

With everyone wanting to load up, how much supply is there? Are we talking like many multiple cases of all cuvees or a smattering if each?

Totally agree, Larry. Personally, I like both both styles, but I find myself preferring the thinner, claret aged wines to the younger, more exuberant, fruit-driven zins.

I think it was 1800 cases total, hopefully an fairly even distribution between the wines.
My concern is the people who want to load up. Will there be a limit to how much someone buy to spread the love.

OP should revise the thread title to say "from Once & Future" or something similar, would be less confusing for those not on the list.
