Brian, just to clarify on my completely subjective comment, I've only had BF a handful of times vs. many bottles of Armada so there is that (hence "might" actually be better).

Fair enough, Alex. I like that you simply go with your preferences rather than "conventional wisdom." [cheers.gif]

The Armada is excellent, imo.
Agreed, now that I'm getting BF and have had a chance to compare I think Armada might actually be better.
I am close to agreeing with this. I think the BF can sometimes be more complex, but I have had some Armada's that I think are as good if not better.

I have always said that if you are buying on the secondary market, I would buy Armada over BF given the price difference. (On release they are close to the same price.)
Edit: And for what it is worth, I have had lots of BF and Armadas over the years.

I have tasted both since Armada’s debut in 04 and while I agree that some years Armada outshines the Frog , I will take Frog most of those years. To add on I have liked En Cerise better than all of them most years.

I haven't tasted for a long time- but the barrel sample I had of the 2007 Armada is one of the best wines I have tasted.

none for me, either, but I think I'm trying for some of the hardest ones (BF; whichever one is Cab Franc heavy (Flying Pig?); and the Tempranillo)

Has anyone heard any further information about the wines that were never released? I heard that the refund checks people received came from the insurance company. Just wondering if any litigation has taken place that anyone knows about. Cheers.

Does anybody remember shipping costs last year, got hit for $93 to ship 9 bottles. I don’t remember it being that high but can’t find my records? We know shipping costs are rising but $10/bottle really starts to irk that I’m getting taken advantage of.

Cayuse also typically holds back state sales tax charges until the time of ship. So this might account for overage?

Unfortunately tax was separate, but I think it’s because I’m at 9 bottles now and since they don’t ship in 12 packs it takes 2 boxes. Wish they’d find a better solution for over 6 bottles.

Cost me $17 for 3 pack + $ UPS Store pick up for $7/bottle shipping. I know the 2 box 9 bottles No Girls leaves questions. About the same shipping for Delmas, but it comes as single a six pack.

Did anyone else get offered the "ex-cellar" wines this summer? I've been on the purchase list since whenever the 2011 vintage came around. Through the ex-cellar sale (which was random), I was given one of each:
(1) 2004 Bionic Frog ~ $170
(1) 2006 Flying Pig ~ $115
(1) 2008 Camaspelo ~ $80
Got Bionic Frog from wait list this year. Still no Pig or Widowmaker yet

Flying Pig here, I’m settled on 4 - 3 packs I think. I would prefer 6 - 2 packs for a bit more variety I think though.

I also waited many years for The Frog. Maybe 8. I’m testing the non-hostage theory by passing on GOK and the mag this time. My first time not taking full allocation and not wishing. I have 4 mags and I have no idea what to do with them. My oldest is from 2012.

Looks like from my order history 6 years with a new 3 pack coming every year.
Started with Cailloux and now have Chamberlain, Armada, Impulsivo and Frog, plus the mag. Stopped getting GOK and Camaspelo within the last year or two.
I basically wish most of the stuff I don't get. At the very least it adds a little drama when you get the wish list email.

JP -

Could be at least three years, maybe longer. I waited 6 years on the list only to be offered a wine I wasn't particularly interested in (Cailloux). A very good wine, but also the highest production and most available on the secondary market. I was hoping for Impulsivo, En Cerise, En Chamberlin, Flying Pig, Widowmaker or Frog. Purchased the Cailloux for three years to save my place on the list, always wishlisting for about four other wines, but never granted any. Gave up after year three, deciding I wasn't a fan of the business model where I don't get to choose the wines I want and have to keep purchasing the wine they chose until they deign to give me another. Too many other options out there, and there are at least 10-20 Cayuse wines on WineBid each week, many at release price or better. I would certainly stay on the list to see what you will be offered, but probably a 1 in 10 chance it will be Impulsivo. If not, it will be several more years of wishlisting until you *might* see it. In the meantime, you will have to purchase whatever wine they offered to stay active on the list.

Cheers, [cheers.gif]

Steve - While I agree with your post, I would qualify it by adding that you can stay on their list by continuing to buy only one of the wines offered. I too was offered the Cailloux initially, but over the years, dropped Camaspelo, Cailloux, GOK and Edith Rose without being penalized for it. I was offered the Bionic Frog after dropping some of those wines, as well as En Chamberlin and En Cerise.

Dave - good point for those allocated multiple wines. In my case I was not granted an additional wish listed 3-pack over the three years, so had to keep buying the initial Cailloux allocation to stay active and be able to wishlist other wines each release. I grew tired of that so gave up my spot on the list. Perhaps I gave up too soon, but I have no regrets.

Cheers!

Although I like BF a lot, I'm not sure it's necessarily better than any of the other Syrahs - Armada is still my favorite, tbh. Right now I'm getting Armada, BF, FP and the Viognier, dropped GOK because I like the No Girls Grenache more - currently wish listing Widowmaker and Impulsivo, which would (probably) do it for me if/when I land them.

Do people really think Bionic Frog is that much better than the various other Syrahs? Some people seem to prefer Armada? I've had quite a few of these wines, but have never had a BF.

Yah i agree.. but it's never a guarantee right.. so i can't hold them to that.. but still would feel kinda bummed.
i'll probably order again next year but if still no go on the BF, drop off the list the year following.. 3 more bottles of cayuse doesn't hurt :D

Great skit.

One of the nicest benefits of being on the list is the release party. Very well done and a chance to sample the wines you're wish listing. I went a few years ago and built a whole Walla Walla trip around the event. It was a good time.
