Taking a big risk vintage-wise, although the sum wagered is small enough: 1980 L'Eglise Clinet for $45 each. The only notes I found on line are actually encouraging.

Went to Total today to pick up my 2016 bdx futures half bottle purchases, and with the 20% off coupon could not help but buy a few 16 Calon Segur at $90 and a handful of 14 Lanessan @ $16.

Heh heh it’s a long way back to KL Wines SF...
2005 Pichon Lalande is probably nowhere near 'drinkable' window right now...
Hi, Todd.

I’ll check one of them out in a week or two. If I wind up not liking it (for whatever reason); well, that’s wine. I can always give the rest away to someone who may want them. Anyway, I got them at a pretty reasonable price.
Tried out one of the 2005 Pichon Lalandes with dinner last night (decanted for aeration for around 1&1/2 hours). Scent and flavours decidedly Pauillac, rather severely rigid in structure, with acidity enough to cut my rustic beef onglet main course well. Drinkable enough with said main course; but, at this point, the older/humble 2001 Clos du Marquis was much more enjoyable.

This morning I awoke to a nice email from total wine with a happy Father’s Day $20 off coupon on purchases over $100. So thinking about this post, and all the hype over the 2016 Calon Segur, and I once again ran to total wine waving my coupon in hand, running like a chubby kid chasing the ice cream truck, and then finding out that they are out of double fudge sundae. No Calon Segur. Again. After the fog of the salty tears wore off, I noticed that the store had replenished their stash of 2014 Chateau Lanessan, so I cleared them out, and grabbed some 2016 Capbern that is getting some play on our site as well. So all in all, my father’s day has been saved. Well, my college kid has not called yet, prolly sleeping off a rager.

Expensive day - 3 bottles of the ‘17 Carter
3 Maxem ‘17 UV Pinot Noir
5 different ‘17 Bevans.

I trust all 3 winemakers not to offer any wines they did not feel good about (as far as smoke taint or heat).

They are different in style. Which is "better" depends on the style of wine you like. I think 14 is leaner, crunchier and a little more red fruited. 15 is darker toned and more fruity. I haven't tried 16 yet. Buy one/some of each and report back with your thoughts.

They are cheap enough; I'd buy a bottle of each and see for yourself. Haven't tried the 16. The 14 is right up my alley and the 15 is to a degree richer than the 14.

Six bottles of 2015 Shafer One Point Five for $65 a bottle and six bottles of 2015 Round Pond Rutherford Cab for $36 after 20% off case discount.
