A short word on the latter - it's in preparation for my 60th next year. Since 1960 is such a wretched year for wine I intend to average this with a 1966 Warres. No I don't intend to mix them together.
I did the same thing (albeit with different vintages) for my 50th. Hard to believe that was already 9 years ago and that three of the attendees have since passed away.
Ripe fruit isn't necessarily a flaw.

2014 Grivot Vosne Romanee - drank one of four previously acquired at a dinner (alongside Fourrier GC VV and Dujac MSD (Domaine)) and went on the hunt for more at a reasonable price.

I’ve never had the Fonseca but the two 1960 ports I tried (I think Croft and ‘warres) left me unwilling to pay up for an okay birth year wine as opposed to really good averaging.

A six-pack of Leflaive Combettes '85, a bottle of Chartreuse Jeune from the late '50s, and a bag of unknown Burgundy from the 50s/60s (one is a negociant bottled Pommard Epenots but the rest is a crap shoot).
Also 3x Talbot Caillou Blanc 1986. 'cause why not.

Just out of curiosity. How do you end up buying a bag of unknown wines? Is it from a mystery sale?

Regional online furniture auction with a box of mixed wine half way through. The other lot included the Chartreuse (dirty but unopened and a good level) alongside what looks like a load of old half-drunk Martini Rosso

Good bottles of ‘70 LFP are fantastic.
Definitely; and cheaper than '70 Trotanoy & La Conseillante to boot (the latter marginally; but, still...).
