Andre B wrote: ↑January 30th, 2019, 6:55 pmHello All,
I'm letting go of about 25% of my California Cult Cabernet collection and would consider trade for good Bourbon. Im getting into allocated bourbons, so trying to leverage my wine collection to do it.
As many of you know, the California cult labels are the founding members of the Napa valley wine boom, and their quick rise to fame and allocation in the 1990s elevated them to super star status. Mailing list sales are brisk and many waitlists are filling up.
If you are interested is seeing my list for these highly sought after wines, PM me and I can send it over. If Bourbon is involved for trade, We can use Wine searcher to establish a fair trade value.
Thanks,

That's decent. The sad thing is, anything less than secondary valuation is now considered a solid deal.Mike Maguire wrote: ↑February 6th, 2019, 4:57 pmFound the 130 Four Roses at my local haunt, $210 all in even with our F____ taxes

Got the Old Forester 1920.. really like it, spicy finish and all
Re: The Bourbon Thread
Lucked into some 1.75L bottles of Knob Creek Small Batch Patiently Aged Rye for basically the cost of a 750ml. Had a supervisor check if any other stores in the region had any, and was told nope.

Did you try the OFC 25? besides being i'm sure ultra expensive, it seems like it'd be a wood bomb like pappy 23

I haven't, it's about $2000+ retail bottle of whiskey, so pulling a sample is out of the question. We've sold quite a few of them though, so I will likely buy an ounce at a restaurant for science sake.Mich@el Ch@ng wrote: ↑February 14th, 2019, 6:01 amDid you try the OFC 25? besides being i'm sure ultra expensive, it seems like it'd be a wood bomb like pappy 23

I reloaded more 1920; have a case put away in case they stop wide scale distribution; learned my lesson with weller 12, down to 3 bottles of that.

Enjoyed the last of a bottle of John J Bowman Single Barrel tonight. Good stuff out of VA that I pick up once or twice a year when family has to fly back to Quantico.

Old Ezra 7yr, nice pour and hides the heat of 117 proof well. $40
Re: The Bourbon Thread
I've heard that the 1920 doesn't "age well" after opening, whereas some bourbons tend to improve. Any thoughts?Mich@el Ch@ng wrote: ↑February 18th, 2019, 6:29 pmI reloaded more 1920; have a case put away in case they stop wide scale distribution; learned my lesson with weller 12, down to 3 bottles of that.

My bottles have been great so far. I haven’t kept them open for that long, though.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
If anything I have noticed a bit of mellowing , pretty darned good all the way through the bottle
Re: The Bourbon Thread
Alcohol doesn't "age" once bottled nor opened.

I know it doesn’t age per se, hence the quotes, but many bourbon drinkers swear that the flavors change as it is exposed to air. YMMV.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
A much more likely explanation is that drinkers change as they’re exposed to Bourbon.

A very likely explanation; still, experimentation is warranted.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
Corey, hmu next time you're in Milwaukee. I drink my bourbon like a sloth and I've got a 1920 open right now from a few months ago that's 3/4 of the way full and will probably remain that way for the foreseeable future...would buy a new 1920 just to compare, is currently on the shelves at a few lws.

“Next time you’re in Milwaukee.” LOL.
Corey, in case your plan is to go to Milwaukee when Hell freezes over, I have an open one and a couple of unopened ones, and here your tongue won’t get frozen to the glass.

In fact, although he resides in Milwaukee South, I'll have you know that Corey greatly enjoys visiting the scenic mainland just up el norte...so go put that in your snifter.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
My snifter is full of OF 1920, thank you very much. And it tastes just love Jesus it did when it was opened.

I also love tasting Jesus. Not as much as I love Los Gatos, which is genuinely lovely, or MKE, which has a bad reputation.

Incidentally, the people at Breaking Bourbon tried to see how flavor changes with time open and they also looked at storage conditions. They noted some changes, but YMMV.

Not whiskey, but if you're in SoCal, Green Spot and Yellow spot at OC costcos for $40 and $80 respectively, with an additional $6 off when you buy two.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
Local TW got in some blantons and Eagle rare. Grabbed one of each, $61.99 and $32.99, respectively. They got in two cases of each today, and down to about 2-3 bottles of each.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
I wish they'd let me "stock up" on Blanton's and ER. When it does show up, it's 1 per customer and is usually hidden, so you have to be "in" with the store folks, and even then, it's hit or miss with who you ask.

Re: The Bourbon Thread
J, you can do it by signing up for Blanton text notifications when it comes in at Bevmo. Limit one per customer, but you can repeat it. Also. In Europe you can usually find Blanton and their special bottlings at very decent prices.Jeannean/Ryman wrote: ↑March 2nd, 2019, 7:18 amI wish they'd let me "stock up" on Blanton's and ER. Re: The Bourbon Thread
Thanks for that tip, but sadly, I live in a land of no Bevmo, Total Wine, or any of the big chains. That said, I can buy Weller Special Reserve and Buffalo Trace pretty much any day and I hear others say the same about Blanton's, yet they don't get those. Distribution is weird.Otto Dobre wrote: ↑March 2nd, 2019, 8:55 amJ, you can do it by signing up for Blanton text notifications when it comes in at Bevmo. which bourbon are you talking about? Old Fitzgerald 9 year BIB? MSRP is $90 on it, and it's selling for $200+ on the secondary market. If you can find it for $75 you should buy all you can.

^^^ Agreed. The OF BiB 9 year are not sitting on store shelves. Here’s what they look like......

Re: The Bourbon Thread
I have had it, thanks to a generous berserker, it is quite good though I would never pay $200 for it.Picked up a bottle of Belle Meade 12 yr ,it reminds me of OF 1920 with a hint more oak.Very tasty!
