Damn! And that's 12 full cases from just one supplier.

I actually try to focus my buying with just a couple suppliers since I have limited amounts to spend and prefer to nurture one or two relationships rather than many.

Too rich for my blood, sadly. Some gems.

If you like santenots, yes. It’s not my favorite vineyard. I’m not a big fan of angles either. I have some 15 Rossignol but I just find it less Volnay, which makes sense for Santenots because it isn’t in Volnay. i bought it because there were 375s, though. Probably should’ve bought more of those Pousse 15 Caillerets in 375.
I didn’t see the email and reply until 90 minutes after it was sent. I was shut out, of course, but had to ask
This system is getting a quite annoying... I was also 8 min "late" and missed out, just wanted a single bottle. Unless you monitor your email all day long and reply within seconds, the wine is gone.
Better than an allocation system based on previous purchases.
Why would that be bad?julianseersmartin wrote: ↑February 27th, 2019, 8:22 amBetter than an allocation system based on previous purchases.
To paraphrase Churchill, the envoyer system is the worst except for all the others. True, it relies on luck, or fast fingers, or having a job that puts you in front of a screen all day, but the alternative is to rely on favoritism? Or some complicated formula involving past purchases (how far back? gross value or number of purchases? How much research would be required simply to decide which of 25 responders gets one of the 6 bottles they have?)Mich@el Ch@ng wrote: ↑February 27th, 2019, 8:39 amWhy would that be bad?julianseersmartin wrote: ↑February 27th, 2019, 8:22 amBetter than an allocation system based on previous purchases.
Because it favours whales - the people who can afford to buy things they don't necessarily want in order to enable access to things that they do. It's a virus in the wine trade and has played a significant part in price inflation and locking fine wine away from drinkers. Luck of the draw is by far the fairest way, despite the significant flaws.Mich@el Ch@ng wrote: ↑February 27th, 2019, 8:39 amWhy would that be bad?julianseersmartin wrote: ↑February 27th, 2019, 8:22 amBetter than an allocation system based on previous purchases.
Are we sure that it is strictly first reply gets the wine and there is no favorable treatment of whales? I have my doubts.julianseersmartin wrote: ↑February 27th, 2019, 9:41 amBecause it favours whales - the people who can afford to buy things they don't necessarily want in order to enable access to things that they do. I am very far from a "whale" and have never had any issues - my hit rate is about as I'd expect when taking into context the speed and reliability of email, and the quantity of other people that might be interested in what I want.JAKE H A N C O C K wrote: ↑February 27th, 2019, 10:26 am Are we sure that it is strictly first reply gets the wine and there is no favorable treatment of whales?
