Took a quick lunch and dropped by Envoyer today, as the November boat is unloaded. Saw a # of your names on the sides of boxes. Man, a lot of stuff came in, fo sho.

Picked up a nice haul of bubbly. Mousse, Falmet, Mouzon-Leroux......lots of cool things to cram into the cellar after work today.
That's good and bad. After the fall shipments I have no room at the offsite. I'm not sure where I'm going to put everything until my new place is done in June. Going to have to drink a lot of bubbs this holiday season!

Checked out the small stock area at Envoyer today. Really great selection with some fantastic prices. Ended up leaving with a few '71 Barisone and '71 Brero Barolos (anyone know where these are from?), a five year old ex-cellar Vilmart Rubis, and a few 2016 Zind-Humbrecht Clos Windsbuhl Pinot Gris (originally sold out, but some customer didn't provide CC info).

They even had some awesome sake, everyday and high end Burg/Napa cabs (like Mazzini, Jadot, Mondavi Reserves, Clos du Val, Montelena), and some other fun growers ('06 Vilmart Coeur de Cuvée, Le Mesnil, Mousse, etc). Frank, thanks for hyping up the in-stock bottles. Fun trip!

I assume all of the stuff they have in-stock are things that were at least offered on the mailing list at one point?

$150 for the '06 CdC, Michael. He has two more.

I think you're right, Sean. It was still fun to see what was leftover, especially from the ex-cellar sales.

Greg doesn't like having extra inventory because it's costly and a waste of space. He even offered further discounts to me. I'll stop by more often whenever I need anything, rather than e-mail him about what he currently has.

Curtis, the shelves kind of grow and shrink with things. I have told Greg on a few occasions to stock more on-hand stuff, for situations like when someone like you or me drops by, we can perhaps to do an additional purchase. I rarely buy from the shelves but on occasion, something lands on them for a brief moment and you hit it just right. That stock room is small, though, and I understand why he can't fill it like a store.

My guess is that price will come down, distributors are playing on those people who panic or want to be the first to own/taste it.

At least that is what I'm hoping. [berserker.gif]

I've found several treasures in the retail room over the years. It's always worth a look. I've been lucky to find a few bottles that were strays from old offers and were well priced.

I blew through Envoyer last Friday and vowed to avoid that damn room for the sake of maintaining a healthy marriage. I was only there to check on stuff. As you can guess, I failed and left with a $35 Mousse Fils that I though might fly under the radar. It was a nice try, but the wife growled loudly regardless. This sound familiar to anyone?

I recall pricing at Envoyer increasing over time, but I don't recall it decreasing. But I've really not been paying attention.

Envoyer has generally not been good pricing for dom, krug, or Cristal, with the exception of the 09 cristal.

Not really where their strengths lie, to be fair. They can sell big gluts of certain wines, more under the radar but quality stuff, but the wines that already have a huge market, I doubt they can pull enough volume to be competitive. I suspect offering DP08 etc is a courtesy to their locals who will go for it for the sake of ease. Which is fair enough.

Their best pricing is for sorta limited stuff like Vilmart, other grower champagnes, smaller less prestigious burgundy houses or some negotiants and random stuff that’s closed out by a vineyard or distributor. Obviously they buy the occasional cellar which tends to be very sharply priced.

Crazy price. I doubt much of the 25,000+ cases throughout the distribution chain will be sold at that price.

Multiply 18, 18.5, and 19.5 by 5 and you get a pretty wide range. Even 18 and 18.5, or 90 and 92/93, aren't very close rivaling scores.

It was actually less than that on bf; there was additional 10% off and free shipping, but yes there was tax.

FWIW, I had the Heidsieck Rose the other night and I didn't think it was all that great. At $20 less, the Mousse Extra Brut late disgorged for $40 beats it hands down. If Greg/Scott have more of that, I'd put your money on Mousse and save a $20 spot.
  • 2006 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Brut Millésimé Rosé - France, Champagne (12/30/2018)
Disgorged 2017. Poured blind next to a Savart Bulle de Rose. That wine is better on all levels for me. The Heidseick just came across as more black cherry soda to me. Creamy cherry, peach skin, lime/citrus. It doesn't have to always be about dosage, and we did taste these blind and I simply found this wine to my perception to be sweeter than I care for.

That's discouraging! Lol
It shouldn't be. Everyone has a different palate for Champagne. FM3 likes racy low dosage champagne primarily from grower producers who farm more naturally/organically; that doesn't mean it has to be your taste.

My palate favors grand marques, especially with age, so that's why I tend to put away cases of DP/cristal/krug etc. Doesn't mean one way is right or wrong. I enjoy Vouette, Mousse, Marie Courtin, Vilmart, and Marguet as well, so it's not a mutually exclusive thing.

2008 Drappier Grand Sendree Brut looks good.
Sounds good, but don't know anyone who can really vouch for it. Will pass on $70 gamble.

Just took delivery of 7 cases yesterday, the locker is packed with tons of good bubbs. Excited to get the 2013 Mousse Special Club Rose. Got to sample it this past weekend at Antica Terra and it's quite tasty though quite young. The 2012 wowed us earlier in 2018.

I did get a bottle of the 2008 Pol Winston Churchill this week... a little rich for my typical purchase levels, but it's our wedding year, and given the values I see on older bottlings at auction I feel the price was good.

Are the wines people claimed and paid for stored in temp & humidity controlled environment until shipment at Envoyer? I remember someone mentioning seeing some of the board member's wines and wondered how that could be if it's stored somewhere.

Love Mousse Roses. The salinity makes it such a joy to drink. Congrats on the amazing bottle of '08 Pol Roger WC!

It's definitely climate controlled at Envoyer. Not so sure about humidity. If Envoyer holds any pending orders elsewhere, I have not heard of it.
