Good espresso in Paris?

We’ve been in Paris for 5 days now (Notre Dame area) and we’ve yet to find a good cup of espresso.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Good luck. A quick google suggests http://www.goodcoffeeinparis.com/ may be helpful.

Café Verlet near Palais Royal: http://www.verlet.fr/
Café Lomi north of Gare du Nord: http://www.cafelomi.com/

Generally speaking your best bet is to grab a cup of coffee in a place where they actually sell coffee (beans).

There must be many others, and they are worth seeking out.

Coutume Cafe has a place in the 7th and supplies a bunch of restaurants/coffee shops throughout the city. Outstanding beans, I even brought some back to NY last week.

I should add that the coffee scene has improved dramatically, but it still has a LONG way to go. But Coutume is an excellent start. Also take a look at ParisByMouth.com, they have an entire section dedicated to coffee.

Paris is home to Mariage Freres, the greatest tea shops/houses in the western world. I drink tea when in Paris.

sadly the best espresso i had in Paris was from a vending machine at a grocery store.

There is no place better than La Cafeotheque. They are artisan roasters, rare in Paris, and are very serious about espresso.

In the 4th
52 rue de l’Hotel de Ville
9:30-7:30
Closed Sun and Mon

Cafeotheque and Coutume are both excellent.

Yeah, go to Italy . . . . [tease.gif]

A recent (timely!) article: “There is one thing the guidebooks, the Francophiles, and the blissed-out romantics never tell you: The coffee in France is lousy…”

Not just a lament, but also some recommendations (hopefully good ones)!
