It is indeed useful, but I wonder if it might not be more so in the Travel section? Thanks, Kim! [welldone.gif]

Wow, keep adding! We were hoping to make it to the Loire in summer '10, but we probably won’t make it there until 2011. Will you add hotels to this as you find stuff?

I’ve decided to use Bourgeuil as my home base…so…I probably won’t be adding hotels.

Restaurants might make it on to the list though.

Sorry for posting this in the wrong place, I never looked to see which categories we had available to us. [truce.gif]

Kim,

I would also suggest exploring the cities of Nantes and Angers. Angers in particular is quite beautiful, from what I saw at the Loire Show last month. There’s a gorgeous old castle, and the buildings are really pretty.

As for wineries, just remember that the Loire is HUGE and it takes a long time to get anywhere (ie don’t expect a day-trip to Sancerre).
Cheers! [berserker.gif]

Michel - Thanks for the ideas…You really don’t think a trip from Bourgueil to Sancerre is possible in a day? I would think it only a couple of hours away.

Working my itinerary now…

First complete day planned includes…Visit at Jouget in the AM…Lunch at Aubere du Val de Vienne…Afternoon visit with Baudry…A walk in Old Town Chinon…and possible a wave to the Chateau Chinon (Joan of Arc Museum) or Caves Peinctes…Dinner still TBD…

Angers is up next with a visit to the Chateau, the Cathedral - hmm, never knew the Cointreau was here…but just starting the research of this area now…

Sounds like a great trip! I don’t know if you’ve selected your hotel yet, but my wife and I loved a Relais & Chateaux member called Les Hautes Roches: http://www.leshautesroches.com/accueil.php?lg=en

The hotel overlooks the Loire with many rooms literally built into the caves along the cliffs. Fabulous food, good location to begin your winery visits and very unique. Full disclosure is that it was 10 years ago on our honeymoon…but it still looks pretty good on the website! We haven’t been back to the Loire area since, but reading about your plans are making me want to get there again soon.

Looks lovely…but I’ve already booked my hotel.

Have you found a good one-day guided tour that would include both chateuax and a winery or two?
