Albuquerque and Santa Fe Restaurant Suggestions

Our family is heading to New Mexico at the end of the month and would appreciate any recommendations for any restaurants in Albuquerque or Santa Fe or their environs (complicated, of course by COVID - we’ll do the legwork on what is open). Couldn’t find any recent threads

TIA

David, I couldn’t believe my post was 3 1/2 years old! I checked TripAdvisor and it seems that Padilla’s in ABQ is still owned by the same family, so I think my experience is still accurate. I grew up lots of great home-cooked New Mexican food, and at our family reunion in 2016 Padilla’s was the only place everyone wanted to eat after our first meal. Cash only.

Not sure what’s open, but I have family there and they locked down pretty hard in NM. Lots of delivery and takeout for them. That said, I haven’t heard an update in a while. I’ll text them and see if they have any recommendations/updates.

Heard back from my brother, says things are opening up again. But with capacity limits, so definitely call ahead. Here’s a few of their favorites.

ABQ:
Duran’s Pharmacy
Campo at Los Poblanos
The Sawmill Market
Farm and Table

Santa Fe:
Cafe Pasqual’s
Harry’s Roadhouse
Coyote Cafe
Secreto Bar

We’ve really enjoyed the farmers market in Sante Fe. Specifically the various items you can buy that are from hatch chiles.

One of my favorite Santa Fe memories was buying Hatch chiles directly out of the roaster I’m the farmers market in season

Just off the main road in Santa Fe is a really good Mexican restaurant called El Paragua. Usually making fresh tortillas on an old stove right inside the front door when you walk in. Locals take me there almost every time I am in Santa Fe.

Got a few places on the itinerary but just bumping (Sazon, La Boca, Radish and Rye, TerraCotta…)

David, any recs from your trip?

We ate at Sazon and Radish and Rye (birthday dinner) on our trip. Sazon was very good but very expensive for the fare(the opinion may be the result of 10 days of Mexican and New Mexican cuisine). I think their appetizers were their high point (my wife still trembles over their 3 stuffed squash blossoms ($25)). R&R was very good and more casual.

The favorite restaurant for a couple of us in Santa Fe was Fiesta Oaxaca (hyper casual with a great selection of Oaxacan moles)

Have a great time.

Gabriel’s just outside do SF is great, a local favorite for New Mexican fare. The Compound and Geronimo are a couple of others. But it has been a while……

We had a nice lunch at Gabriel’s with a friend. It was on a Saturday at 2 pm and the lines were long as they were still social distancing, even though it a huge place

Thanks, David. The mole at Fiesta Oaxaca looks good!

A lot of the menus I’ve looked at strike me as expensive…

Attracted to Sazon by the wine list!

They have a nice list indeed, Doug. They also have an off menu mole selection at Sazon. They bring small samples to the table and have several proteins you can pair them with. I am not a fan of wine and mole matches, so we passed on the wine. I did like the huge painting of a bandito that they had in the dining room, though.

Hahaha, Sazon baited and switched me with a probably too-good-to-be-true listing.

We walked out and went to Fiesta Oaxaca!
