Big Sky recs

With my high school son’s school starting virtually and fall sports pushed into spring, we have decided to make a family trip out to Big Sky Montana the first week of October. We’ve never been out there before and are looking for recommendations for restaurants, hiking, golf, fishing guides, etc. Given Covid concerns, we’ll be cooking most of our meals at home.
thanks in advance,
Jan

The restaurant at Lone Mountain Ranch is pretty good, and occasionally they offer live music (sometimes in the bar next door). Call ahead to verify this is still the case, but I recall when we were there a couple of years ago they permitted BYOB (I don’t remember if there was a corkage charge, but if there was I’m sure it was quite reasonable).

In terms of other things to do in the area, there are many outfits that offer guided fly-fishing trips nearby. A day out on the Gallatin River is pretty magical. The ranch hooked us up with these guys and it was great: www.montanaangler.com

We also enjoyed rafting with Montana Whitewater: https://www.montanawhitewater.com/

Finally, it’s a bit of a haul, but if you’re in that part of the world this time of year, try to get to Yellowstone for a day and see the Bison.

This winter I had a pretty tasty pizza at Ousel & Spur in town. Nice enough place to go “out” for dinner to.

Can’t help u with the rest since I only go in winter, but I do know there are a bunch of trail ride outfits around and the fly fishing is supposed to be great.

I love this place. Super comfortable, great food & vibe and they have a fun list.

Thanks everyone for the recs! Much appreciated. I will look into the dining recs and definitely the fishing guide. We plan on spending one full day in Yellowstone. A drive up Beartooth Pass with some hiking was recommended to me as well, weather permitting.

Quick serve from Blue Moon Bakery has been a go to for me when visiting accounts at the mountain.

The Beartooth Highway is a pretty spectacular drive. A few pics from my June 2015 trip over it. I started the morning in Laurel, Mt., and finished up pulling into the Yellowstone Lake Hotel for dinner, a bottle of wine, and a thoroughly relaxing evening. See if you can spot the “Bear’s tooth” in the last pic. [cheers.gif]
