I have lost my 14 month planned Rome/Modena/Bologna/Orvieto/Casserta/Naples trip to the Coronavirus yesterday. Was March 31-April 15.
Sad as it was with both of my adult children.
Delta gave a full value voucher until end of year so they were great. My biggest hit was small tour operations in Modena and Bologna. No money back whatsoever, so a loss of about $400. Some of the better operators I have dealt were Viator, Booking.com, EatWith and With Locals. My AirB&B in Rome was a total refund as there was never a fee attached and the room in Modena a $15 fee. ClassicTic gave m a 70% value voucher for an opera for the next year, about $50.

Franco Pepe will have to wait
Balsamic vinegar will have to wait
Parma ham will have to wait
Parmigiano Reggiano will have to wait
Rome is Rome and will wait for no-one.

:)

Booked for Spain at the end of June and don't plan to cancel unless the situation changes drastically. Or unless the restaurants we want to go to shut down. :)

Planning a trip to Greece in June and still going. The stats on the flu (cases and deaths) are way worse than this virus is at this time. Would I go to the epicenter of it all, probably not. Companies like JP and others have to curtail travel so they cannot be sued if someone got the virus.

Maybe I am missing the big picture.

Just my two cents.
I'm in the same boat, Greece trip planned for the last two weeks of June. Hoping things are a little more under control by then. So, as of now, still planning to go.

I have a work conference in Vancouver March 30-April 3. As far as i know this will not be cancelled (less than 500 attend), but a lot could change. As far as I know there are no cases in Vancouver, are there?

We have a little quandry. We live in the US -our younger daughter is scheduled to go to Southern Italy in early April for a school trip, and my wife and I are scheduled to go to Amsterdam for a few days during her trip. We are using Airbnb so already paid half; the balance is due in late March . And we might need to stick around for some health concerns for our older daughter.

We will figure it all out-or circumstances may make the decisions for us.
High school trip canceled .

Yesterday, my university pulled our spring break-study abroad to northern Italy that was scheduled to depart next Saturday. Thursday it was a go, by Friday afternoon it was off.
My daughter is scheduled for another mission trip to the Dominican Republic March 9th and I wish she wasn't going. It is still on, with the suggestion the kids wear masks in the airports (which is meaningless).

Since summer in the Northern Hemisphere is after April, we will all be safe.
While that is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, the real virus experts do not care.

I’m Surprised conferences are not canceled. Most major companies have imposed travel restrictions.

Had planned to go to the Canary Islands (great observatories!) in Mar or Apr but decided not to pull the trigger when they locked down a hotel on Tenerife w a corona virus case. Will wait out a couple cycles of the new moon and revisit.

Thanks for that. Hadn't heard. USG is cancelling all upcoming study abroad trips, and suggesting students already on study abroad return. My daughters trip is a mission trip (not school) and they are pushing forward as of now. I'm On the fence.

We are scheduled for an Alaskan cruise in July. We remain hopeful. The cruise terminates in Vancouver, BC. From there we are flying to Toronto to visit friends and just in time for Mike Grammer's big shindig. The trip is still on for now.

final answer for the Summer Olympics will be late May, and it will either go on or be cancelled

My parents are supposed to go to Australia and New Zealand in mid-March for just shy of 4 weeks.....they are very concerned. So hard to get reliable information and determine whether it is real or fear-mongering/panic.
Joe,
we have one confirmed case here in NZ, he is a Kiwi passport holder who was in Iran and tested positive on his return.
I wouldnt be worried about visiting New Zealand TBH.
Thank you!
Joe,
not trying to alarm you but there are discussions about NZ closing it borders to Australia.

Booked for Spain at the end of June and don't plan to cancel unless the situation changes drastically. Or unless the restaurants we want to go to shut down. :)
Are you heading back to San Sebastian/Basque Country? Looking forward to updates, as I'm going again in October. Some reservations already made. But that's for a different thread!

We go to Galicia every year, and only spend a few days in San Sebastian to visit the friends we've made there. It's probably easiest to follow my Instagram at NYC_Maenad at the end of June for impressions and updates.

My 17 year old son has a school trip to France booked for mid-April, during spring break. Nonrefundable payments made. Feeling uneasy.
Edit: The closing of the Louvre seems an ominous sign.
ACIS Educational Travel has just canceled this trip and will apply students' payments to a trip next spring instead.

I feel bad for people in the hospitality industry.

Booking LAX to Corsica, Sardinia, then Paris in Sept/Oct. Delta will fully refund tickets or waive change fees for all tix purchased this month. Hotels are cancelable until 2 weeks before arrival. Paid a small deposit on the Paris apartment until big payment in June. So we have little risk until June and can wait to see what happens.

Scheduled to go to the retail real estate convention in Las Vegas in May. Obviously, a game time decision.

Also going to book Cabo in June. Delta is fully refundable and the hotel also, until 2 weeks before.

Booked to Rome/Florence/Tuscany as soon as school get out in late June. Was really looking forward showing my kids this part of the world. Have been watching the news reports daily and not feeling great. I am hoping it runs it’s course in Italy over the next month or two.

Also, there is a chance the downturn will force Alitalia into liquidation which would throw another monkey wrench into the equation.

I have a convention in Las Vegas a week from this coming Tuesday. So far it is still on but both the venue and sponsor are "monitoring the situation". We'll see.

we've got a trip booked the first week of April into Barcelona and out of Lyon. not planning on changing anything, but its with Lufthansa and they grounded 120 planes and cancelled 25% of their EU flights today so I don't know if its looking good. If Lufthansa cancels on me, then so be it, but since trip insurance is a no go at this point its Burgundy or bust.

I will add that my concern is less about getting sick than it is about getting stuck, as mentioned above, and if I wasn't already booked, I would probably be considering waiting.

I’m not going anywhere until this “blows over”. Any meetings abroad, unless absolutely necessary, I’ll do via telecon. Eldest son leaving soon for work in David, Panama; but no COVID-19 case reported there so far. Youngest studying in the Netherlands these days. I advised him to avoid unnecessary travel for the time being.

We're headed (whole family, including Jen's dad and his gf) to the National Parks (driving, high roof Ford Transit) for Spring Break, but two nights in Vegas beforehand. Vegas is a bit scary to think about...with their recycled air and billions of germs on a NORMAL day

Maybe you should take Vegas off the itinerary Todd!

Yeah, that's what we're gonna decide soon.

Spring Break, in general, will be a debacle this year, methinks

I imagine it’s going to be rescheduled. Betz release and Taste Washington both cancelled already.

Scheduled to go to the retail real estate convention in Las Vegas in May. Obviously, a game time decision.
May not be your choice. The International Housewares Convention here in Chicago (60,000+) canceled this month’s convention this week
A big Oracle event here in Chicago also cancelled.

American College of Surgeons suspended all planned international meetings the rest of 2020, with the exception of Clinical Congress in Chicago in early October.

Will know more about domestic meetings shortly. I’ll be in DC three weeks from right now unless the summit I’m attending is shut down.

Trip to Milan next week cancelled (the event i was going to was cancelled). Trip to Seattle for a conference at the end of the month apparently still on as are trips to France, Italy and Spain May, June and July. But I am waiting to see how things develop (and to see if my Italian event ever gets rescheduled).
