Wine and food in Orvieto, Italy?

Any gems to check out in this town ?

Stayed at the converted monastery hotel just outside town a few years ago. Should have been fabulous given the surroundings but a classically “undermanaged” hotel. We were only there for a few days as a family with young children and didn’t look for the top restaurants. However, we did have a very good meal with a fabulous bottle of aged orvieto at the restaurant opposite the duomo in the corner of the square.

I Sette Consoli is our most preferred restaurant in the city.

Dined here 3 times over the years, including one time when we took the train from-and-back-to Rome just to visit and do lunch. Advanced reservations is a must.

5 minute leisurely walk, all within the old town, from the main Duomo piazza.

I figured out it was Vinosus. Apparently, still very good as someone else ate there last week.

Thanks for the suggestions. Looking forward to trying them out.

Thanks Ramon for the heads up on isetteconsoli. It looks fantastic and perfect spot for Sunday lunch to break up our drive from Rome to Pienza.

Roughly, how much time would it take to explore Orvieto ?

I’m not Ramon, but if you have time in Orvieto take a tour of the underground Etruscan caves. IMO, the most interesting thing to do/see in Orvieto.

Orvieto was our stop on the way to Saturnia. There is a fancy spa and a public park with hot springs and mud . Whole families steeping. We loved it (the park).

Back on theme, there us something to be said for whatever Orvieto they are serving by the glass at the cafe right across from the Cathedral facing the front doors.

1/2 of a day.

A friend, who lives in Umbria, recommends Da Gregorio, in nearby Morrano.

I had a nice porchetta and a good bottle of wine at Gastronomia Arrone - kind of a deli. Also, recommend Gelateria il Gelato di Pasqualetti.
