Wine/Food Recommendations-Jura/Annecy/Beaujolais

#1 Post by Dave H. » April 19th, 2019, 4:36 pm

I'm heading to France this summer for a wedding, and have secured a few days after for food and wine. Our route is Arbois to Annecy to Beaujolais. I'm an obsessive planner and after lots of research have filled a potential itinerary with wine stops and dinners, but have been to none of these places, so am curious about others recommendations, particularly around wine.
What cellars in Jura/Bojo are must-stop? I have Bourdy and Thivin at the top of my lists currently, but otherwise it will be a matter of paring down tons of options. I'm into all wine styles and speak virtually no french. Preference for small scale, and happy to make appointments but truly up for whatever.
Also any recs for stops or sites welcome.
Also may have a bonus afternoon in Sancerre en route to wedding in rural france from Paris--know almost nothing about Sancerre wines except that they are popular and tasty and not hip.
Thanks!

Can’t figure out why Houillon-Overnoy is not in your Arbois winery list, but I’ll still recommend.

For Arbois restaurant, I’ll suggest La Balance Mets et Vins for good food and awesome local wines to match. The chicken in vin jaune and morilles is awesome.

Cool. Keep it coming. la Balance is closed the two days I am there, unfortunately.
Caudalies and La Grapiot for dinners currently.

In Cruzille, Clos des Vignes du Maynes.

In Annecy , Clos des Sens just received a third star.
I have never been, but I have heard very good things from a few friends who have.

Near Annecy, two of our favorites are:
-In Veyrier-du-Lac, Yoann Conte (This was formerly Marc Veyrat's place. It's right on the water. Plan to stay the night.)
-In Talloires, Auberge du Pere Bise/Jean Sulpice for lunch.

I would also be interested to learn about good restaurants in Annecy, however I am looking for more casual places with ideally focus on wine. It seems like there are quite a bit of tourist trap-ish places in this town.

Not an expert, as I am the OP seeking advice, but I have my eye on La Cave in Annecy. Seems to fit the bill of casual/wine centric/ non touristy. Let me know if you get there first.

Actually another person who I believe knows her stuff also recommended this place so seems like a no-brainer. Another one that seems promising is called Vin Chez Moi, a wine bar and shop serving food as well. Unfortunately as I tried to make a reservation I was told that they are not open anymore on Sundays and Mondays which is of course the exactly the days we are going to be there in July.
