Downtown Los Angeles Offline Location Recommendations?

#1 Post by Scot H. » March 19th, 2019, 2:21 pm

Hello all. Hosting a tasting with a bunch of work colleagues from all over the country. Hotel is not being accommodating with a location for us and so looking for a downtown restaurant where we can have a tasting. Currently scheduled for mid-day so not looking for dinner - just looking for a place where we can have appetizers and share some bottles.

TIA for any recommendations.

APL was AWESOME - the steaks are insane, and they know wine. They have decanters, cheesecloth if you need to filter, etc.
Apparently I'm lazy, have a narrow agenda, and offer little in the way of content and substance (RMP) (and have a "penchant for gossip" -KBI)

mid-day is a little tough as most of the really good restaurants in DTLA are dinner only.

Are you thinking walking distance? where are you staying?

Can give suggestions based on that

i'd recommend Water Grill on grand. free corkage, no limit.
food is adequate if not mindblowing, and service can be hit or miss, but a good variety from seafood to some red meat so it would work with many different wines.

Thanks Charlie. We are staying at JW Marriot LA Live, which just south of downtown near the Staples Center. We can obviously uber or similar to something downtown, but won't have cars. The hotel won't let us bring wine, even to meeting rooms. Appreciate any ideas. I will also check-out Water Grill. This will be on a Saturday, if it helps.
