I'm going to be in the Pfalz area visiting some friends - would very much appreciate suggestions as to any producers to visit and any nice restaurants for lunch. Thanks to all in advance!

Several years ago I enjoyed dinner at Alte Pfarrey in Neuleiningen. I think they serve lunch, too.

I biked through the Pfalz a few years ago, suggestions from Berserkers and my notes are here:

I'm not sure where you'll be, but the area around Bad Durkheim has several good choices for wineries. I especially recommend both Pfeffingen and Koehler-Ruprecht.

If you're lucky Bill Hooper will chime in - as you can see from the linked thread, he's the man when it comes to Pfalz.

Muller-Catoir near Neustadt. Burklin-Wolf in Wachenheim.
