Anybody been to the Pantanal?

Considering a trip to Brazil to do some wildlife photography, especially leopards.

We were there on a Field Guides birding tour back in 1996–didn’t see any jaguars, but did see a giant anteater, plenty of capybaras and caimans, and 296 species of birds. It was quite an experience. I think both Field Guides and Victor Emanuel Nature Tours, however, now have tours that make a point of looking for jaguars as well as birds.

That sounds like an awesome trip!!

Thanks Randall.

David, Wings Birding Tours–a good outfit we’ve used, albeit to Iceland, not Brazil–now offers a photographic safari to the Pantanal. Rockhopper is another organization to consider; although we’ve not used them, they have a good rep.

Of the ones I mentioned, the VENT tours strike me as best from your perspective. I’m a big Field Guides fan, but VENT seems more serious about jaguar viewing. Their leaders–two of whom we’ve traveled with-- are outstanding.

Thanks again.
