New Orleans hotel recommendations needed

I’ve not been to New Orleans before so my wife and I are considering a trip there next April. I found the great New Orleans restaurant thread here and that really got me excited to make this trip happen!

So, what hotel do you recommend and why do you like it? I’d prefer to not spend more that $250.00 per night if possible.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions [thumbs-up.gif]

The Loew’s is awesome!!! We just spent 4 nights there. Very plush, beautiful ammenities, and walking distance to everything! For cheaper haunts, check out the Bienville House in the Quarter. But you can’t beat Loew’s for around that price.

Thanks T-Bone…I’ll take a look at the Loew’s website. Any comments on either the Omni Royal Orleans or the Royal Sonesta Hotel down in the French Quarter? There’s some appeal to the old style southern hotel to me. Or would staying in the quarter be a mistake?

David

Go to Hotwire, type in a 4 star hotel, pick your price, you can’t lose.

We stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans on our honeymoon. We just loved it. I wouldn’t stay anywhere but the Quarter. Late at night, a man with a beautiful voice would sing in the street outside our window. The place is very well run. The roof-top pool is an especially nice feature.

Thanks for the personal endorsement Ken. That’s the hotel my wife really liked, at least from what she saw on their website. I’ll pass along your comments and more than likely that’s where we’ll book the room.

Thanks again,

David

I love New Orleans, but have found it nicer to stay just outside of the Quarter the older I get. Quite a few of the newer, better restaurants are just outside of the Quarter, but within walking distance. But if this is your first time to New Orleans, then I would stay in the Quarter.

Bone in
Bone out.

I would go with the Ritz or Ibberville Suites (owned and operated by same company)… Located in the French Q, but just outside the “vocal” zone… Walking distance to EVERYTHING and nothing beats the ambiance… I live 35min outside of NOLA and this is where we stay when we spend the night in the city…

Chris

p.s.- Many times Ibberville can be found for $89/night… For that price its the BEST place in the city bar-none

I want to echo T-Bone – stay in the Quarter. Go on Bourbon. But beware (or enthusiastically seek out) a balcony room will be loud well into the night. NOLA is a great city. Still tinged with sadness, but the food is great. I love the Gumbo Shop.

This reminds me of a funny story. Stayed at the Hotel St. Marie, right off the Quarter. Had a balcony room, and about 3am, we heard someone knocking (banging) on our window! We’re 4 floors up! Friggin’ scared the bejeesus out of us, but he eventually went away. Just remember, if you stay in the Quarter, you have to expect ANYTHING at all hours.

Hey baby, that’s N’Awlins. Gotta love it!!!

The most shocking thing of all is that T-bone was sleeping in New Orleans, IN the French Quarter!!! WTF!

And you call yourself an ADMIN? Where do you see me use the word “sleeping”…

And there’s a reason we didn’t let you in. You were drinking foofy drinks all night with an umbrella in it screaming something about Esquire…or a Squire-something. Banished!!!

I’ve always enjoyed the Windsor Court. Close enough to the quarter to walk or catch a short cab ride, but quite and sort of off by it’s self (except for the garish casino across the street). Excellent service and the price was fairly reasonable the past few times I stayed there.

David; We really enjoyed the InterContinental on St. Charles right outside the Quarter…Excellent location!
Cheers!

We’ve had great experience with The Soniat House. It’s more of a B&B/inn, not a large scale hotel, so don’t expect a full service restaurant, gym, etc. But for a true N.O. flavor, it’s great. And it’s in a quiet area, but easily accessible to most anything in the quarter.

The deals are fantastic right now if you check Expedia, Hotels.com etc.

Recently, I’ve stayed at Bourbon Orleans which was very suitable and close to Jackson Square, Pat-Os and other spots. I also stayed at the W on Poydras which was great. It is across from Harrah’s and Loews Hotel (and next to Mother’s Restaurant, a local landmark). In addition, it is right next to the Quarter but isn’t quite as loud. You really can’t go wrong with the prices right now.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Thanks so much to you all for your suggestions. We wound up booking a room at the Windsor Court at a good rate. I figure while we’re there we can check out all of the other recommendations for a future trip to NO. We’re really looking forward to the getaway.

Thanks again,

David

I need a room for a couple of nights next week and there seem to be excellent deals at Le Pavillon, International House, and the Iberville Suites. Anyone have any experience with these?

I’ve stayed at the Iberville Suites a couple of times. It’s usually one of the better values and pretty protected from street noise and traffic. Only draw back is it’s at the very end of the quarter and makes for a long walk to Jackson Square, the French Market, or Frenchman Street. Service are limited in the hotel (no gym, spa, restaurant), but you can use the Ritz across the street.
