Best Steakhouse- Denver???

Going to Denver in a few weeks. Booked a reservation at Shanahans as I ate at Elways last trip and wasn’t super impressed. Thoughts on Shanahans? Or perhaps another spot that is better?

Thanks!

I didn’t really care for Elways either and Shanahan’s, to me at least, seems to over salt things. In the same area as Shanahan’s is Del Friscos. Hard to beat. Denver, CO | Hours + Location | Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House | Steaks & Seafood in the USA
Downtown is Guard and Grace. Excellent as well. http://guardandgrace.com

What kind of steak? LOL

The Fort is “unique”

We’re going to be in Denver for one night- June 10 Friday. If you had one night in Denver for a great meal, where would you go?

I’ll ask Donn Hein to take a look in here

If steak is not your main passion, I would highly recommend Fruition. They are in a neighborhood just on the edge of downtown. Small menu, limited winelist, limited seating. Reservations recommended.
They also have a sister restaurant right in the heart of downtown at Union Station called The Merchantile. Bigger winelist than Fruition. If you are adventurous, my favorite winebar/restaurant is Solera, Spanish farmhouse food and a nice winelist, but it is in a sort of sketchy neighborhood east of downtown.

Fruition and Mercantile are both strong. I would also nominate Acorn, smaller shared plates, great cocktail program.
@Michael, Colfax isn’t sketchy, it’s ‘colorful’ [wink.gif] speaking of the 'Fax, To The Wind Bistro is putting out some fantastic food but no reservation policy makes it tricky to get a seat.

If you are into all things meat, check out Old Major.

10 years ago when we lived in the city we used to walk to Solera. East Colfax didn’t bother us, but we learned to look past certain things happening in the alleys. [shock.gif]

If you like sushi, Sushi Den is some of the best I’ve eaten.

Not steakhouses but I don’t eat at
Steakhouses…

My one meal there was good, not great but good. However, they had 1997 Corison on the wine list at a bargain price so I was more than satisfied.

There are two places in town I will never return to: The Fort and The Buckhorn Exchange. They put the “tourist” in “tourist restaurant.”

On a recent trip we enjoyed Guard & Grace and had decent sushi at Sasa

Shanahans had a great steak. Very impressed.

Was dissapointed in Elway’s (although I heard the DT location was better than Cherry Creek whcih is where we went).

Went to Old Major a few years ago. Thought the food was very good. The cocktails were really bad. Tried four different cocktails (tried friends’). 3 were bad. One was horrible and was sent back.
