Aiming to head out that way for a few days, never been.

Any particular favorites or recommendations? Wineries, Restaurants, other?

Some random threads/tips from the Aussie Wine Forums that might be of assistance.

We spent a couple of nights in the Margaret River area this past November. We stayed at the Margaret River B&B, which I warmly recommend. Our only winery visits–both excellent–were to Leeuwin (thoroughly enjoyed their tasting lunch) and Xanadu.

Thanks guys… good tips. Lots of good info on the aussie wine site as well!

btw, after my recent Sydney visit I’ve come away with a Halliday 2016 book. Seems like most of the ones mentioned on the other forum are 5* in there… I suppose the Halliday book is a relatively decent guide then?

Take any of the wine scores with a grain of salt they tend to be on the very high side, but as a winery guide it is useful.
I’ll be floating around Margaret River myself in a few weeks

Cool, we can compare notes in a few weeks!

Heading to Margaret River and Swan Valley soon. Any restaurant or wine/winery recommendations?

Mandoon Estate is a fairly impressive setup in the Swan valley. I haven’t tried the wine, but the reviews I have seen have been positive. There is a brewery on site as well (which I did acquaint myself with), and the restaurant looked pretty nice too.

Most of the stuff in the auswine links above still applies so it depends what you like. The Juniper Cabernet is a personal favorite of mine. I believe Fraser Gallop have a cellar door now and that would be a place I would seek out next time I was there. Amelia Park was a nice surprise for me too and I believe they have a restaurant there now.
If you find yourself in the north western part of the region near Cape Naturaliste and it is a nice day then the Eagle Bay brewery is a very nice place to have lunch

La Vigna is a very decent wine shop in North Perth. My wife has been twice with more than satisfactory results. They can provide helpful info.
