One way tickets (airlines)

Why are they so expensive? Often more $ than a round trip…

Any explanation for this?

I do almost all of my flying on Alaska/Horizon and that’s not the case with them (or Southwest for that matter), but I’m familiar with the phenomenon and have no explanation - though they do charge more to fly to SFO than to OAK for whatever bizarre reason.

I remember going to Austin with a plane change in DFW. The ticket to Austin on AA was $202 (sticks in my memory) but one to DFW would have been close to $400. There’s no rhyme nor reason for this stuff.

Bingo.

United was offering one way flights between White Plains (HPN) and San Francisco (SFO) for $100 all in (means all taxes included). The two 1-ways were cheaper than the $246 roundtrips that were on the website. It’s always a good idea to spend an extra couple of minutes researching these things before booking.
