I'd be up for doing a Zoom chat this Friday night 9/4 if others are around. Nice way to kick off Labor Day weekend.

I'm in if wi-fi cooperates. Cell phone and wi-fi coverage we take for granted in urban settings is far more rare if you move to a farming area. We've been feuding with Comcast since July.

With everything that’s been going on and lockdown/shelter in place dragging out longer and through winter I figured more and more people are in need of some socialising.

We should start doing these regularly again. How’s Friday 9pm ET/6pm PT for people? Happy to circulate an invite.

Should we do a theme? Could make it a bit more interesting. If so, I’d suggest “new discoveries”: crack open a bottle from a new producer/region you’ve discovered recently, but we could do something else.

That’s definitely on my list for next time I’m in Madrid - hopefully sooner rather than later; but, definitely, after vaccination. It’s not far from the hotel at which I last stayed. Had I known last I was there, I could’ve easily walked to that restaurant.

Hi Noel, nice to "see" you Friday. Hope you enjoy the restaurant. I heard about it from my son, who maybe found out from his best friend, who is Spanish. Anyway he's been there several times.

May the vaccine be available soon.

Oh and the restaurant in Madrid that Peter was talking about is El Cisne Azul (The Blue Swan) the menu is looks ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! It would be fun to attempt to recreate some of their mushroom dishes.

It was a pleasure to “meet” you all. I responded to you just before I read your above post; but, strangely, said response seems to have disappeared. Anyway, for next you and/or your son are/is in the area, my favourite seafood restaurant in Madrid is La Trainera (Salamanca district). Their house specialty grilled wild turbot (rodaballo a la Trainera) is the best turbot dish I’ve had anywhere (so far, anyway). Their carabineros a la plancha (among others) is also excellent.

Best,

N

Hey Nola, it was really nice to see you! Did you ever find out what the mushroom you see in the mountains is called in English?

In English, it’s known as the “saffron milk cap” and “red pine mushroom”.

Thanks. Hadn't heard of it before. Looks like it's mainly (or only) found in Europe.

It was nice chatting with everyone, and nice to meet new faces.

Someone was talking about Alba area restaurants. We went to this board recommended restaurant back in 2014. Trattoria della Posta in Monforte d'Alba. It's Michelin rated. It's a lovely restaurant that looks like it might be in your home. 55 - 94 EUR.
