Re: It’s been too long, Old Vines Offline #6 - Aug 31st, Forestville
Time to nail down some details.
Wines- Lets do a mix, 2013's and some free for all wild cards. Love to find the surprises in the wild cards.
Food (main)- I will always go for the grill. I can bring a couple nice Flannery Hangers to toss on the grill.
Food (sides/apps)- traveling so easier for us to do meats/cheese/olives. Can also buy some sides if you have a go to place.
Anything planned for Friday night?

I’ve got a load of Flannery in the freeze as well. Hangers, Strips, Rib-Eyes, Jorges... sides I’ll handle. I’m up for jumping into 2013 as well. I have a few older wines to check in on as well but as far as theme I like how you think.Mike Stoneking wrote: ↑August 9th, 2019, 5:32 pm Time to nail down some details.

‘04 Tofanelli Zinfandel
‘13 Scherrer OMV
‘13 Bedrock Monte Rosso
‘13 Bedrock Carlisle
‘13 Carlisle Rossi Ranch
Nothing planned for Friday, yet.

So - is the plan to do flights of three or four? I have a suspicion people will be bringing OV Zins so I'll bring a flight of OV Carignan.

I can bring some old vine zins. I'll have to check my cabs and bedrock selection to see what else qualifies.
If anyone wants, I can bring a BBQ brisket, Ribs or pork butt.
If we want to get funky on the grill, I have some wild game. Nilgai and Venison backstrap.

We usually just open bottles and go for it more casually than the Syrah nights. Sit around the table, pass the bottles back and forth, munch on goodies, shoot the shit. If you guys want to geek out we can.

Okay, I am now a plus one. (Deb is looking forward to seeing old friends, and also does not want to sit home alone after we drop off the oldest daughter at college.) Wines: Definitely bringing the 2004 W-S Feeney Ranch; also have a Talty Ponzo Zin (2014) that qualifies, and the Valdez Family 2013 St. Peters Church that should work. So probably two total bottles? Is that enough?
Also, since you are cooking, I am thinking it would be nice if all of us anted up for Brian's outlay.

If we want non-zin I can also bring Spring Mountain cab, or a York Creek '02 cab. And while we are talking Limerick Lane and the Bilbros... I just got off the phone with Sam Bilbro who I was directed to when I wanted to find out the age of the Fox Hill Vineyard (some nebbiolo). After I hung up, I realized who it was and called him back. Someone needs to do an event around that family's wines.

I was going to bring West Of Temperance "Poor Ranch Vineyard" Mendocino County Carignan, Dashe Cellars "Les Enfant Terribles - Evangelho Vineyard" Old Vine Carignan, and Porter Creek "Old Vine" Mendocino Carignan, and I think we have a blend somewhere.

Funny, I woke up this morning thinking about your earlier post about Carignane, and I guessed the Porter Creek. Good stuff, hadn't really considered the others.
I am down with a brisket--one of my favorite pairings with Zin, but you need 12 hours or so to smoke a big one properly. Herculean if someone wants to do it. Venison, also. We don't eat pork, but I doubt that we will go hungry, so why not just gorge ourselves on every kind of viande? And once again, there's going to be waaaay too much wine.

I kind of fell in love with West of Temperance recently. They're doing some Aglianico too. You'll like it.

Advance weather looking good. 86° and clear. Should make for a relaxed evening unlike last night where as of 5am this morning the mercury has not dropped below 70°.

I'll bring six of those ISO tasting glasses if I remember so that Greg T can make fun of/excoriate me for owning them. Most of my stuff seems to break like cookies, so that's probably the best option from my stash.Brian Tuite wrote: ↑August 26th, 2019, 5:33 am Looking at my stems and my go-to party stems are dwindling in numbers. Brian - I'll bring an extra wine.
It is a red. Got it from a friend of my wife's, who is also the madam who now owns the Mustang Ranch.
She worked her way up, so to speak. She saved her money and bought the place back from the government.
In addition to her other business activities, she makes wine as a side job. Always good to have something to fall back on.
Wild Horse Saloon Merlot. Hand-signed bottle.

Worked right down to the wire this evening but I got the new bathroom functional. 2 weeks ago it was just studs and no roof. Nothing like having a deadline.
Anybody bringing something for the grill? I have meat pulled out but want to be sure there’s enough. I’ll pull more if needed but don;t want to overdo it. David is bringing brisket but is there any more protein coming?

Re: It’s been too long, Old Vines Offline #6 - Aug 31st, Forestville - The Round-Up
A little foggy this morning so just some quick thoughts.
Zinfandel sure can age when made well.
2013 is an enormous year for Zin and Field Blends. Let them rest and they’ll reward you.
David J is a brisket God. Ho Li Fuk!
A few stars from the evening
1979 Edmeades DuPratt
1995 A. Rafanelli Dry Creek
1999 Limerick Lane Collins- ageless
2013 Bedrock Carlisle
1985 Black Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Fat Cat
2016 West of Temperance Carignan Poor Ranch
Some bottles missing this morning that must have gone home with guests Not pictured, ‘13 Carlisle Rossi Ranch, ‘13 HVS Bedrock Vyd (I never got to taste that one
) ‘13 Myriad Las Madres Whole Cluster (ask Greg T).
I kinda felt like this until the Powerade and coffee kicked in this morning.

Both are drinking way better after 1.5 days in the bottle. Bedrock has more up front fruit but a smooth finish. The Carlisle is just sweet from beginning to end. Smooth and lingering.

That Limerick Lane was great. Went over this morning but it was appt only so we visited Christopher Creek and a few others before heading to the airport. Good Dolcetto!
Brian is simply a stellar host and we liked him so much we went back!
Hope we didn't impose too much. David is indeed a brisket god. I tasted a piece that just melted in my mouth and asked who he hell made THAT! I asked where he was from and he said Texas.
Must be in the blood. What you always dream brisket should be. Full of flavor and literally melt in your mouth good.
And Brian is no slouch. The meat line up was as impressive as the wine and for those so inclined there was salad and vegetables and cheese. Brilliant evening.

Many thanks to everyone who attended. The wines were great, the company even better. Too many leftover wines though. We should cap the # of bottles next time.
Yeah, right.
