It’s been too long, Old Vines Offline #6 - Planning Stage

#1 Post by Brian Tuite » June 2nd, 2019, 7:50 am

I’m Jonesing for another offline. Rain has stopped here, finally, hopefully, so let’s see what we can put together. Last years offline fizzled in the planning stages, due mostly to apathy on my part due to a busy schedule (sorry), so this year I’m starting the thread early to give us a 4 month window of execution.

What: California Old Vine wines, (vines planted pre-1970) we can narrow it down in the ensuing thread.

When: TBD
No can do weekends for me August 1st, September 6th, October 12th

Where: Casa Tuite, Podunk - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley, Forestville

Food: It could be open grill or maybe yank out the deep fryer and do Fish Tacos. Open dialog.

Who: TBD
Brian and Dava
Will Segui - Pending
Mike and Dana
Larry and Lori
Mike Dildine
Macario
R Foxall
Landreth - date dependent
Roger O - date dependent
Greg T - Pending
Richard Frankel
Todd French - Maybe if not 8-12

Pretty wide spread here, but if my schedule allows - I'm in.

Let’s shoot for Aug 17th. That give Will a shot since it won’t be harvest yet.

If you are open to the later part of October, I would definitely be in.

I also might know somebody that has a cow about ready to be slaughtered, so various beef cuts would be available for an incredible price (free).
It's not easy being drunk all the time. Everyone would be doing it if it were easy.

Whew, let's check this travel schedule. So, no can do July 20, 27; Aug. 3; Sept. 21, but I think I can handle the rest. Definitely want to be in on this. As I review my cellartracker, I see that it's hard to find vineyards that old in large numbers. Possible contributions: Ridge Lytton
Springs Petite Sirah, Talty Filice Connolly Zin, W-S Feeney Ranch Zin, U. Valdez St. Peter's Church Zin. Pretty much anything from Spring Mountain Winery. I do not have an animal sacrifice to offer, however.

Brian, I'll be out again in early October helping my favorite winemaker. If this offline falls in that time period then count me in. If not, I hope we can catch up again while I'm there.

Keep me posted Brian. Of course I'd be interested. My wife may not be able to do it as she's going to be busy with performance scheduling in the fall, and who knows what I'll be up to. But if it's at all possible, I'd love to see you guys so will do anything reasonable to make it work.

Roster is filling up so let’s try to nail down a date.

Sat Aug 17 2019 - Yea/Nay

Anyone have an aversion/allergy/religious objection to Fish Tacos or any fried food for that matter? Majority rules here, let me know your preferences. Heck I may have to do a replay in October if Tex wants to bring critter.

I am out until the October time frame with work commitments and travel all over the country.

We will be slaughtering another beef critter in the next two months, so if there is interest in an October get together, I can have our guy fabricate accordingly.

Brian, I’d love to come pending dates. Aug 17 is good for me for now. Maybe we can open that Becklyn you’ve been kindly storing for me :) but I have no idea how old the vines are !

I can't do that weekend, as my FIL is in town, so if it IS that weekend, I'll be sad to miss celebrating Dana!
