OK Jay--I'm going to try to come. No promises, but will do my best.

I was at 2.5 (Brad in the Pool). It was and remains one of my fondest memory days of this crazy hobby.

Food? No. I am a control freak when it comes to the food I serve. Not that I have a problem with other people's food - the Gougeres you made at your apartment were outstanding - it's just that I like to control timing and how much and all that. Ice bucket is another issue. That would be a good idea. It avoids the tip over problem when we fill a large cooler with ice, especially since it will be late July and rather hot.

I might change my mind on dessert. I will consult with the War Department and ask her what she thinks.

The rear deck is taking shape. pool opened and getting warm, umbrella in place. replacement part ordered, 200,000 BTU propane burner received and tested for deep fried Cajun turkeys (I would make Belgian fries but that's a lot of duck fat), will post poll in about a month on food choices.

After the turkeys are done, throw in a bag or two of French fries.

But that's not duck fat fries! 10 lbs of duck fat from Dartagnan is $79.99. Or I can get it in gallon tubs (7.5 pounds) for $38.85 from here https://www.farmfreshduck.com/duck-fat/ ... -free.html

The idea of getting a gallon of duck fat to make fries for a Berserkerfest is almost too much to pass up.

Hotel info:

White Plains and White Plains area hotels

https://www.booking.com/searchresults.h ... &from_sf=1

If you stay in Manhattan, you can take Metro North to White Plains (on the Harlem line). 2 trains per hour. I suggest taking the express. One way weekend fare is $9.25. Senior fare is $6.00. Buy your ticket from the machine or agent on on the web. If you BOB (buy on board), it will set you back $15.00. FYI, seniors can BOB without penalty.

...or take the New Haven line to Mamaroneck NY. They have 2 trains per hour. Fares are the same.

Downtown White Plains hotels

The Ritz
Cambria
Crowne Plaza
Residence Inn (at the train station) and a 5 minute walk to town.

If you have a car
Hyatt House
Hilton Westchester fka Rye Town Hilton
Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown/Elmsford
Extended Stay in Elmsford
Hampton Inn White Plains/Elmsford
Spring Hill Suites Tarrytown
Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook
Renaissance in Harrison
Courtyard by Marriott in Rye
Courtyrad by Marriott Tarrytown
Sheraton Tarrytown
Doubletree by Hilton in Tarrytown

None of the above are more than 15 minutes away by car. Jay lives on the southern end of White Plains.

Have a question, I'm here to help.

The Crowne Plaza in White Plains is the closest. The downtown White Plains hotels are all fine and you can take a cab to and from my house. If my kids are there, I might even be able to arrange pickups from hotels. I recommend against any hotel that requires driving to my house unless you have a designated driver, because no one will be street legal when they leave. I don't use Uber so maybe that is a cost effective alternative but a taxi from, let's say, my house to the Tarrytown Marriott will cost over $30 with tip.

If you want, I can rent out my grandson, who is an expert on "the Bear Park." If your wife is a serious student of sculpture, she can spend a lot of time there. If not, it's still good for two hours by the time you walk through the gardens with the map and the key and look at everything.

I couldn't get her interested in either the Berserkerfest or the gardens.
So that means if I come it will be solo like last time unless someone else from the Hartford area wants to carpool.

If anyone is going to be in Tarrytown, I can meet you and we can cab it to lessen the cost...
Mike, I can take the train up to Ttown and we head from there or you can take it down to Dobbs Ferry and we do the same. Your call.
Cool, lets do it...

Picked my 4 choices plus “Other”.

The “other” I would suggest is Cuban Sandwiches in honor of Carlos Delpin (I think he’s Cuban.....not sure).

Easy enough to set up the station with Cuban rolls, ham, Swiss, sliced roast pork, pickles & yellow mustard (no fancy Grey Poopoo). Instead of a plancha, wrap them in foil and press them down on the grill or BGE with a cast iron pan.

Wait, wait a minute. We love our Cuban neighbors but por favor, don’t get me mixed up with Roberto Orlando. Our cuisine is way better than a pork sandwich...

I would never make Cubanos pork sandwiches, especially upon the advice of a Dominican who comes from a country the seems to have a habit of poisoning Americans. Just saying . . .

I could go for Mofongo, which I ate a lot of while in Puerto Rico the last time. Maybe I will try that as an appetizer, but I have to experiment first. There's also Pernil, which is similar in preparation to my pulled pork. I normally make two shoulders, so maybe I will pull one and serve the other Puerto Rican style.

However, the bottom line is that Carlos gets as much Puerto Rican food as he wants at home. We should make him Pastrami on Rye while in NY. Come to think of it, that's a great idea. Maybe I will go with home smoked Pastrami.

Amy and I are definitely coming. I think she already confirmed that with you by email.

I voted for some food choices, but Amy asks for good hamburgers. (She's a simple girl from Queens.)

Limiting it to 5 choices is just cruel! Nevertheless, I have made those choices. Yum yum.

Just dropping a quick line to thank Jay for welcoming a newbie/winberserker-lurker to his soiree. Very much looking forward to meeting some fellow winos and tasting Jay's delicious cooking. Just a couple weeks now.

Jay - just relocated to CT late last year and would be thrilled to be able to attend this year! This will be a perfect occasion to open some of the good stuff we've been "waiting for the perfect opportunity" for.

Please count me and the wife in. Will advise if we bring some others from Rowayton to join us.

Chris D (and his +1)
Cheers!

Jay - thank you! Food choices look amazing. Super excited for this event.
I need to change my reservation to + 1 (instead of of +2)

Excellent. We need people who will bring some of that insipid French pinot to make the other insipid French pinot lovers happy.

Narrowing down the food choices:

Definitely having:

Smoked brisket with caramelized onions.

Smoked pork butt on Rockland Bakery challah roll with choice of creamy coleslaw or vinegar mustard coleslaw and choice of tomato sweet or vinegar mustard sauce.

Assorted fire roasted vegetables with Veleta Olive Oil drizzle and Balsamic Vinegar

Almost certain:

Shitake mushroom and saffron risotto (something for the vegans and vegetarians).

Dry aged cow meat, exact details to be determined in consultation with a client that is a high end beef processor and has the largest, most modern, high tech dry aging facility on the east coast, will serve so long as I can make arrangements.

Maybe, if I can get a gallon of duck fat:

Belgian Duck Fat Fries.

Maybe, if I have a mental breakdown for fear of not having enough food:

Fresh home ground lamb sliders with ras el hanout, garlic and other north African stuff ground into the meat, on a roll with optional home made Tzatziki sauce.

DESSERT:

I have decided to relent from my normal "But we're strictly kosher and people can't bring food to our house because we do not know for sure if they are as strict as we are" like my mother taught me and allow people to bring dessert, so if you want to show off your dessert making talents, let me know.
