I like the 'rules' of this offline!

George, can I tip off a friend who just moved there about this event?

Bringing +1. Don't have any magnums but possibly two white "half magnums" from Friuli.
And this pairs with BBQ how exactly? [scratch.gif] [scratch.gif] [scratch.gif]

Stephen there are non BBQ things. Gene was robbed by a bottle of Friuli at gunpoint as a child. Leave the gun and bring the Friuli* I love that stuff. It will go very well with some of their offerings. It's more of a pulled pork place than a ribs and sauce place.

All wines welcome .

I'm probably bringing a magnum of 1982 St. Emilion bottled by a consortium. Plus backup mags that almost always gets opened regardless.

I'm guessing we bring stems.

In terms of juice, is there a preference for Pinot Noir with some age on it over well oaked aged Napa Cab? Asking for a friend...

Aged either is good. Cab maybe better with the food but the crowd might prefer unoaky aged Pinot to oaky aged cab. I'm rediscovering older non-French Bordeaux varieties and enjoying it.

#JorgeGonnaJorge

I’ll see if I can dig up one of my mags of the 2006 Ladera Lone Canyon cab. That was the second to last vintage before Bill Harlan acquired the property, sprinkled some magic fairy dust on it, and bottled it from 2008 onwards under his Promontory label......

Count me in as a mebbee. If coming I'll bring a 2009 Rhys FF Pinot, which when not brett infested is really nice. Seems like a good venue to roll the dice. Will bring a backup, not sure what yet.
OK, I’m going from maybe to let’s do this! Bringing along a pal. Should he bring a maggy too?

Gregg, not totally necessary but a pick up a BART would be cool. I’m leaning towards 2000 Bordeaux, though I also have 86’ 87, 90 and 91 Dunn Howell.

Dammit, the party in Sacramento is at 11:00 am so I am definitely not going to make it back in time. Think of me fondly as you drink good wine. I'll be in the suburban purgatory known as a buffet restaurant. [cry.gif]

Erin I just called the venue that both served the Palazzo and let its customers consign at double retail. My call was received properly. I pointed out the contrast with the fact that two of the wines were terrific at great prices (I bought one of each).

Great! I really was surprised at the prices but it was the first tasting of its kind so I'm sure they'll tighten up the process.

I came across two 2000 Bordeaux magnums: Brane Cantenac and Grande Mayne. Cellar Tracker reviews were less than stellar. I'll bring a 1986 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet. I don't expect feedback from this thread, so I'm thinking the wine will be ready to go without aeration (Galloni seemed to think it was at peak).

I've had that Dunn twice, most recently a year ago, and it is gorgeous (but, I love old Dunn.) I'd be honored to try it again - a fabulous, fabulous wine. Just my two cents.

I'm bringing a magnum of Hubert Lignier 1990 Morey St. Denis Premier Cru in excellent shape, because of the year and what Lignier put into his Premier I expect it to show as well -- as ready, anyway -- as any Clos de la Roche I've had. And a mystery commemorative magnum of 1982 St.Emilion, no idea which vineyards they blended.

I'd be pleased also, it's a wine I bought to commemorate my 1986 marriage and had to sell in my 2003 divorce LOL, never got to try it.

More Dunn HM trivia. Each of my four children got an etched Dunn HM five liter from their birth year (none 1986, the wedding was voluntary LOL).

1986 is a
great vintage for Dunn HM. In magnum it should be at peak now.

1983 Pierre Gelin Clos de Beze
1991 Viader
1997 Renaissance Claret Prestige
1981 Bichot Echezeaux

Magnum Fest 2019 Oakland Edition was a success. More notes later but here's a few Pics.... Not sure why they are all rotated 90 degrees except one. They display correctly on my phone, google and on my PC. Will try and fix later. Headed to Big Sur with the family today. Another great offline for the books.... 1979 Spring Mountain and the 1991 Viader were my WOTD. The 91 Viader was subline. One female berserker ITB called it "Baller" and indeed it was. If this what RP88 tastes like I need to drink more of these 80 points wines :)

The 01 Telegraph was drinking really nice as well....

That 2002 ENO Pinot was something irresistible with a lit going on. Tasting Greg's horizontal of RRV pinots was educational and great wines. The Ladd zinfandel was really beautiful, I did not expect that from that grape by a Burgundy varities winemaker. The Ladera 2005 was a cult cab, made me nostalgic for the old days of drinking them freely at affordable prices. Three Champagnes. The three magnums of old abused Grand Cru red Burgundies I brought were interesting, none excellent, none in as good shape as Eric's 1979 Spring Mountain.. Much excellence elsewhere. .Stephen brought two impossible Italian whites, 15 percent and not showing it at all except in fullness. Etc. Etc.

Thanks for organizing this, George! I was very late to commit to joining in, since I had another commitment that was postponed. Love the Stay Gold Deli venue (been there a couple of times before for wine tastings), and a great group of people. No big surprise that with a lot of older bottles, the wines were somewhat hit and miss but the best were top-notch.
