Bringing:

2006 Kosta Brown Koplen
2006 Cascina Adelaide Barolo Preda

Do we really only have 3 whites? I might bring one if that is all we have. I am doing Amtrak and want to keep it "light."

Woo hoo! Dan-o starts the new BerserkerFest numbering system! (Jay Hack was the one who initiated me figuring out an easier way than 'what was the last one again?' and so I came up with something even I can remember...)
Apparently I'm lazy, have a narrow agenda, and offer little in the way of content and substance (RMP) (and have a "penchant for gossip" -KBI)

Awesome ! It will be great to see you again also Brent ! A little later I will go to my cellar and agonize for 45 minutes to choose the perfect couple of bottles. Of course the first choices I pick within 7 minutes would be fine but that would be too easy [snort.gif]

I will be bringing the 2011 Saxum Paderewski Magnum instead of the 2010 - the 2010 is playing hide and seek behind a bunch of boxes of other stuff and I have no place to move it to, so we will have to go with the 2011. It looks like a big fat Burgundy bottle, so those of that ilk will feel comfortable.

Stems? You want me to schlep stems with a 50 pound Saxum Magnum? Oh, all right. AND my new toy camera to capture the festivities.

Glad to see this self-liquidated (no pun intended) in the overnight hours. I was surprised to see the wait list take care of itself.
KenV also dropped out, and I confirmed Michael M.

Looks like we're 20 for dinner.

I have one stem in an unused foam slot in my Pelican camera case. I have a few "O" type glasses in my office and if I can come up with a way to carry them, I will bring them as well.

Any.offline.that has 4 bottles of bubbly and a mag is automatically gonna be a great time. Hopefully my domestic heavy hitter will compare well to the Frenchies !

On.my way. The stupid train left almost 20 minutes late even though it arrived to the station on time! Only happens on the way to wine dinners .

Great event. Great people. Lots of fun. NO ONE TELL MY DOCTOR I ATE SO MANY CARBS!!! Photos to follow . . . tomorrow. Thanks to Dan for organizing and to the rest of you for bringing great wine. Really liked the Produttori, the Aquamarine bubbly, the Kistler Chard (I have not had one for many years), the Taurasi (which was surprisingly drinkabhle at only 7-1/2 years old), and, of course, the SAXUM from mag.

Dan, BIG KUDOS! Another quite successful DiFaras thing.
It was fun seeing everyone and making new friends.
The pizza was flowing maybe as quick as the wine. Dom's son does a great job. Dom is slower and last night the contrast was HUGE.
I have figured the DiFaras allure out: it's NOT the regular cheese round pie that's great, it's particularly the squares and it's variants. Dom uses a great pepperoni and oh yeah, cherry tomatoes rock! Lol

Thanks to all and especially Dan for his labor of love, and I do know it's a labor...

Thanks again Dan. That was so much fun! Great to see some old friends, build on some and make some new ones. The pizza was awesome last night. The wines just as good. Thanks for sharing everyone. My wines of the night... The Kistler Chard was awesome, my Bereche was singing, the No Girls was killer and the Barolo (not the Scavino, but the other one) was really great. Also a tip of the hat the Produttori Paje which has gotten much better since having first tried it four years ago. Still has plenty of time to develop but in a nice place right now. Also, the Ultramarine is a favorite of mine, but I think the Bereche came in a little stronger tonight. Might've been the temperature as mine was sitting in a block of snow for two hours.

BTW, I love how Jay loved the Ultramarine. Last time I brought a bottle to this event, he said "a sparkling wine from Sonoma, pass". Ha ha.

1- 2012 No Girls was just a joy from the first sniffy sniff.
2- 2008 Produtorri Barbaresco Paje was awesome, just like my previous two openings. Glad to have more.
3- 2006 Barolo Preda started slow but after an hour became fragrant and just beautiful.
4- 2006 Kistler Chardonnay Dutton. So pretty, so floral and precise. So pure.
5- 2014 Becklyn Cabernet Sauvignon Napa . Always pure and focused. My type of Cabernet.
6- The Taurasi was beautiful. Would have liked to spend a bit more time with it. I don't have bottle details.
7- The Conterno Barbera d'Alba was another nice pizza wine I would like to have on my table.

Yep.

I (we) survived another Todd French Di Fara's Berserkerfest 10.1. I arrived at 6:40 to find the Count and Countess waiting for me. It was their first time at Di Fara's, along with Benjamin Goldberg. Everyone else had a minimum of 1 Di Fara's offline under their now loosened belts. Margaret's sister was in charge last night, as was Dom's son. Most arrive by 7:00, and I asked that a couple of pizza's be ready at that time. We usually wait until 7:15 or so to get the first pie. Well, 2 pies were on the table by 6:45; and we were off to the races. This took the edge off. By 8:00 we had it if you know what I mean. Pies were coming out so fast that I had to tell them to hold off a while. Regulars at this event know that's never happened before. Everyone was full early. There was never a lag time in getting the next pie.

They made the usual assortment of round and square pies. As Mike stated about, it's all about the Sicilian (square) pie. My favorite has always been the baby cherry tomato and onion, followed by the baby cherry tomato, onion, and garlic pizza. Yum. DId I mention the pepperoni? Dom uses top shelf ingredients.

In addition to Clifton's cheat sheet, David C also made one up. They came in handy. Thank you.
I had a list of wines that I wanted to try. Slightly under half the wines were on my list. It's impossible to taste 2 dozen or so wines. I didn't even drink the wines that I wanted to.

I recently popped the '16 Becklyn, and was anxious to drink my '14. It didn't disappoint... until I tasted the Magnum of Saxum Paderewski. That was killer. The No Girls Tempranillo was unbelievable, and in my wheelhouse. I had a taste of the Ultra Marine BdB on the way out. I wanted to try the '06 KB Koplen, but my glasses were full at the time. I remembered on the way home. Sorry Ted.
I was most surprised by the just off the plane '11 Surveyor Thompson Pinot from New Zealand's Central O (as they say). Central Otago region. I also liked the '06 Kistler Dutton Chard. My last wine was the '09 Chateau La Tour Blanche. I recently purchased one after enjoying the '05 in 2012 when my son got married. The '09 was delicious, and has a long life ahead of it.

The best thing about this offline is the friendships that we've all established over the years. The wine and food come in a distant 2nd and 3rd to that.

Nice seeing you all again. If you're interested in attending on Fat Tuesday 2020 (February 25), send me a PM on December 1. Does that work for you David C? neener

Thanks for the kind words above.

I was a great evening - as usual. Thanks Dan for organizing and thanks to everyone for bringing such a nice assortment of top shelf wines. Don't know about next year for me......Feb 25 is very close to Falltacular:( I like the later Fat Tuesday schedule. And the corner pieces of the Sicilian pies are what I crave!!! The pies did come out quickly this year and there was enough for my daughter to take a small box home. It did look like there was a lot of wine left over. Dan....there was about 1/3 of the Koplen left.
