Berserkerfest 10.1 - 7th Annual Di Fara's offline - Fat Tuesday March 5, 2019 - post wines please

#1 Post by Dan Hammer » December 19th, 2018, 8:17 pm

I've edited the title to make Todd French happy.

7th annual Di Fara's pizza + wines that don't suck offline. Here's the link from 2017.
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=146627

$44 a person, and all you can eat. Price includes tip and all the soda/drinks you can consume. Dom will make all types of pizza for 20 - 21 of our closest friends.

This is a pre-pay event. Please PM me for my Paypal address.

Di Fara's http://www.difara.com/

Fat Tuesday March 5th 2019.

Time 7:00 - 10:00 (pizza served through 9:00).

Free street parking after 7:00. If you take the train, it's the Avenue J stop on the Q. Walk less than a block.

Bring glasses. The theme is the same as last year - Wines that don't suck. It seems everything goes with pizza.

They start with a round, then a square, and move on from there. Dom will make whatever we want, even if it's not on the menu. Someone asked for a sauce and veggie pizza without cheese, and Dom made it. The balance of that pie didn't go to waste.

After everyone had a couple of slices, we settled into the fancier pies. I always wanted to taste the artichoke pizza, the meatball pizza, the pepperoni, and yes, the onion and cherry tomato pizza. Hmmm. Margaret (Dom's daughter) likes to serve what she thinks is the best pizza, based on previous sales.

Wines from 2018:
2003 Scherrer Old & Mature Vines Zinfandel

2001 Scherrer Zinfandel

2011 Quivet Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch.

So? Are you going to join us?

Next week I'll send you my Paypal info. Yes I know, how quaint. If anyone wants to get a head start, you can PM me for this info now, otherwise we'll talk next week. I don't follow up with reminders, so if I don't hear back within a week of my mail to you, I'll just start working the waitlist. I know that will make a few waitlisters very happy. [wink.gif]

I'm going to send everyone a PM with my Paypal information. Remember to send as a gift to avoid fees.
I would appreciate payment no later than February 14, as I'll start clearing the waitlist on 2/15. Just for the record, I do not send reminders; so if I don't hear from you, I'll figure that something came up and you can't join in the fun.

I think I will bring a 2012 Riverain Cabernet, but I am tempted to instead bring a magnum of 2010 Saxum Paderewski. So if anyone wants to express a preference, go ahead. I may completely ignore you and bring something like the 2010 Lisini Brunello because, hey, it's Italian food.

You may recall I was in love with the '13 Saxum last year.
I've never tasted a Riverain.

While I appreciate, along with Ken and Ben, the Italian wine; Napa cab has a special place in my heart. Bring what you want to share.

Put down that I will bring a Saxum magnum since there are going to be 20 people, and everyone is going to want a taste of the Saxum. My plan is the 2010 Saxum Paderewski Magnum so long as I still have it and it is not a data entry error. I will check.

Put down that I will bring a Saxum magnum since there are going to be 20 people, and everyone is going to want a taste of the Saxum. My plan is the 2010 Saxum Paderewski Magnum so long as I still have it and it is not a data entry error. I will check.
Ugh. Not everyone wants to taste your Saxum. Can you bring something good instead? [berserker.gif]

Still looking at what wines to bring. Was going to bring a Pieropan La Rocca but we already have a few white wines on the list.

narrowed my wine selection down to a few bottles.
1970 warres vp
mag of 1997 sandeman vau vintage vp
2004 Hospices de Beaune premier cru cuvee Nicolas Rollin Cotes de Beaune
2004 Tignanello

The Beaune is showing beautiful as of last summer, not an overpowering red which is why I thought it mat pair well with most pizza.
Anyone have a preference?

Whatever you want to share with friends is fine with me.

Reminder > bring stems.

If anyone has to drop out, I know a few of the waitllisters will be happy to take your seat. [wink.gif]

Please post your wines. As you can see, the list is starting to take shape.

Gee, that's a lot of European wine. And I always thought pizza was invented in Brooklyn by Italian hit men to pass the time while waiting for jobs of a more lucrative nature.
Yes, that's a DM of 1978 Mouton!

Jay,

Randy Bowman once told me that all you need is one good wine to park with at an offline. The first one on the list fits your flavor profile (and mine). I'm looking forward to exploring.
