Todd et al. - on the 2005 Pichon Baron, do you want to pop and pour and let it evolve, or do you want me to double decant it tomorrow morning? I am doing the Riesling tonight- it will need it. The Mondavi will be open for business within 30 minutes- so no need to open ahead of time.

We have a new Berserker Of The Year already, since Frankie flat-out refused it - holy crap, KJJ, what a tremendous action on part of your law firm! I think I need to find somebody to sue in Texas so I can hire them! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Here's what I plan on bringing:

Friday:
2000 Pichon Longueville Baron
2005 Dunn Napa Valley
-or-
2011 Stony Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
(lemme know if you have preferences on the cabs)

Saturday: (GREAT looking menu, KJJ!)
1999 Giacosa Barolo
2002 Chevillon Nuit Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
My revised list, because this thread - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=155704 - made me scared to bring the '02 Chevillon, is the following:

Friday:
2000 Pichon Longueville Baron
2005 Dunn Napa Valley (for KJJ)

Saturday:
1999 Giacosa Barolo
2009 Gonon St. Joseph (to put up against Charlie's 2016 Gonon he is sending along, so we can go Pobega-style and slightly-aged side-by-side)

I've not had the '05 so I have no clue what it takes - the CT notes state it's 'open for business' which is nice because I've been holding on to my '05 Bordeaux for what seems like an eternity!

LindsAy needs to get this fixed! I was promised Pink Grape Beer with my fried chicken and brisket! Also Dallas weather is going to be absolutamente perfecto (that's for you, Horjay), so figure out your airport sitch and come get it.

Thoughts and prayers are welcome. They are going to the airport at the crack of dawn to get on a standby flight

That is herculean effort. For real. Standby. On an airplane flight to a city. At an airport. Oh dear. At least the biggest work travel day was probably today. For hope and prayers, I'll give you that 2 of the lat 3 flights I've taken were not full, and on one of them (Charlotte to Dallas) I had an EXIT ROW entirely to myself. Dallas to Minneapolis on Monday evening had no one in the middle seat of my exit row.

Jorge, pray hard. Since your name is Jorge, even pray to Saints and even the Virgin Mary. Here, for you. So you know I'm thinking about you just like your abuela would:

FWIW I popped an 05 Pichon Baron a week ago and it was pretty shut down for the first couple hours. It started to bloom at hour 3 with lots of coaxing.

Perfect- thank you for this. I went ahead and arranged to work from home tomorrow- so I will open this around lunchtime and bring whatever is left at 5 champagne.gif

Jorge- fingers crossed you can make it tomorrow, but I will bring some sample bottles so you can get some of Friday's appreciation on Saturday if need be.

Safe travels to all incoming- and thank you to our most generous host as well for today's news.

Morning ladies & germs!

Quick update: been at airport since 5:45am. Sun is peeking through the clouds. We are currently standbys #3&4 on the 10:35am to Love Field. Everything is completely booked out of any NYC airport to both DFW and Love Field.

I have a good feeling about getting on the 10:35 but, worst case scenario, we’re still confirmed on tomorrow’s 12:50pm flight landing at 4pm.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

So, some of you guys are bringing 4 bottles per person? Seriously? Two per person is probably too much and some of you are doing that too!

Thanks to you and your firm John. It is very much appreciated.

So, some of you guys are bringing 4 bottles per person? Seriously? Two per person is probably too much and some of you are doing that too!
I remember Acker dinners where everyone brought at least 6 bottles- usually 8-10, with the offsetting effect of sharing with other tables and other tables sharing with you, and nary a drop left at evening's end. I still plan assuming a night like that, though even there these days no one gets that intense anymore. And it is good to have backups. Last big dinner I attended here in town over 1/3 of the bottles were never opened- people just came prepared for anything.

For my part, I decanted 2 of the mags (05 Pichon Baron just now- and damn good thing I did because this will need a lot of air) and the third will be available as needed.

Lots of light cardio and bread day before and day of- my palate should be good for at least 40-50 reliable tasting notes tonight.

I was figuring 4 because I’m host. Certainly no pressure for folks to bring four per.

And with your hosting showcase, you should bring zero bottles!

This is a Berserker event. There is no Old World v New World stuff. Only "stuff". Disorganized chaos at it's best!
