IF you're worried then bring 2 x 750ml and open one and keep the other in reserve as needed for repeat pours and/or heaven forbid you might have a corked bottle.

Not going to be at the event, but drink the Arcadian Sleepy Hollow Chard - in a great spot and probably not going to last too much longer

It's a mag, and it's Joe's wine so it lasts longer than one would guess!

Jorge's got all his picked out - I was looking at some Giacosa and Burgundy options as well as Bordeaux or Cab but perhaps our food is too heavy and/or spicy for the more elegant wines?

Not sure what all is being planned to be brought in from Pecan Lodge, but I'd bet their Texas-style beef brisket will be one of the main attractions. It's so good, many people (myself included) prefer it without the sauce.

As for food pairings, I might steer towards heavier reds and if white, sparking or even an off-dry Riesling. I'm still trying to figure out what to bring myself.

I'm leaning towards bigger is always better. Texas and all that. Likely to bring SQN. Just not sure which one(s).

Here's what I'm thinking:

Friday (BBQ):
- Sparkler/White - 2000 Clos De Goisses
For Reds, personally I love Barbera/Zin or something with riper fruit to complement the brisket and beef ribs (with or without sauce)
- 2011 G. Conterno Barbera Cascina Francia
- 2010 Chateau Le Dome (haven't tried before but read it's a riper style bdx)

Saturday:
- Sparkler/White - Taittinger CDC Rose 2004
- Red - 1991 Ridge Monte Bello

Feedback is welcome and I can switch directions, of course.

Kane, thanks for coordinating and hosting. Looking forward to it!

2010 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle
2009 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard

Todd - I drank a mag this summer. It is still in a great place, but I think it is not going to be as long lived as some other of Joe’s wines.

Brisket, Sausage, Fried Chicken
Cole slaw, Mac n Cheese

It's mostly no sauce, which means quite a wide range of reds will play, and the chicken is to ensure champagne and whites have a plaything as well (it's also very good fried chicken).

I'm thinking:

2002 Piper Heidsieck Rare
20__ Domenico Clerico Ciabot Mentin Ginestra Barolo
2007 Marques de Murrietta Castillo Ygay (maybe)

And probably a couple others to ensure the pump is primed and good wines open to try as soon as you walk in.

Saturday:
2000 Late disgorged J Schram
2013 Rotem and Mounir Saouma CdP Blanc Magis
2001 Pride Cab
2005 Chateau Cos d'Estournel

Or something like that. I certainly don't expect everyone to bring that much wine, but as the host, I'll probably pop a bunch of stuff.

All,

I want to thank everyone for letting me know your status. We've got 1 person who has not yet responded to PM or the thread. That's it. If I hear nothing by Friday afternoon, I'll open that solo spot up for Dinner on Sat.

If you need anything, feel free to email me at jkane@krcl.com

No, I'm not related to Brad.

Saturday dinner looks great!

Was thinking of bringing the following:

Sparkler: 2015 Dirty & Rowdy Traditional Method
White: 2014 Kutch Chard Santa Cruz Mtns
Red: 2015 and 2014 William & Mary Cab (would be fun to see the differences between these two) or 2008 O'Shaughnessy Howell Mtn Cab

As others have noted, I'm happy to bring whatever the group's preference may be.

Bill, despite 4 PMs and multiple RSVP requests in the thread, I've still not heard a word back about whether you are in for Saturday or not. Given the costs sunk, stems catered in, etc., I am officially giving up your seat to someone else. I am providing notice here not to be a dick, but so there are multiple ways you can see it so you don't show up at my house without a seat at the tables.

Got to do what you have to do. Hopefully you can fill the seat and cover your cost.

Thanks for all the planning. I do it a lot myself and understand what it entails.

OK, think we’ve narrowed it down to these wines:
12BA72B4-CACE-4DA9-A072-F97AA01EA797.jpeg
For Friday:

NV Channing Daughters PetNat Rosato (95% Merlot & 5% Lagrein). Should be a good match with the fried chicken.

2000 Almaviva. Ditto on the match with brisket and sausage.

For Saturday:

2012 Ridge Montebello Chardonnay

2011 Joseph Swan Great Oak Vineyard Pinot Noir

And because no one has mentioned any dessert wines, the Barbadillo San Rafael Medium Oloroso should be a good foil for the Pee-can Pie.

PetNat is wine thats bottled a bit before alcoholic fermentation is completed. The fermentation finishes in the bottle, thus giving the wine a bit of natural effervescence. Its all the rage with cool kids & #hipstersomms!

Damn, I have been shamed. First Todd with his Dunn, now me with my Hipster Moms wine. Guess this is what they meant by Texas hospitality.

Fine, I shall find a suitable replacement m'lord.
Don’t you dare. I’ve never had pink grape beer and really would like to try it. All kidding aside. Okay most kidding aside.

If this get together was in Austin you would have been the belle of the ball with the pet nat. But in Dallas the only residual sugar they want is in their napa cabs

That’s right on point. The worst part about work is the Caymus.

Todd / Jorge - please don’t forget your cowboy hats. 10 gallon is a plus. Spurs optional, but can come in handy when opening those pesky bottles.

Shit I might go to Veritas on Saturday instead. Wife will be livid having to put up with some of you turds, but that burg lineup looks good. Which means half will disappoint. Kidding!

3/4 will.

Darin, you bringing some of your juice Friday?

Also bolo ties with scorpion inlays and a large belt buckle are must haves. We’ll all be wearing them.

Wow! I'm interested! Not sure I can make it, as we're visiting Izzy Nosnik before the gig, but that's a tempting little program.

Was thinking of bringing the following:

Sparkler: 2015 Dirty & Rowdy Traditional Method
White: 2014 Kutch Chard Santa Cruz Mtns
Red: 2015 and 2014 William & Mary Cab (would be fun to see the differences between these two)
**Updating for a special delivery received today from Mr. Segui**

In addition to the above, we can look forward to enjoying all three vintages of his Shifflett Cabs plus two other 2016 treats!
