German Wine Lovers, NYC?

I’m looking to start a group of German wine lovers for regular tastings. I’d like to make these more focused tastings, with each meeting reflecting on a single producer, vintage, vineyard or other cohesive theme. To effectuate that, I’m happy to supply the lion’s share of bottles for the first tasting, which I’d propose to be Zilliken, as I’ve got a pretty good array of bottles direct from their cellars. But there are lots of options that would work. I think 5 people is the right number. If it takes off, we could give ourselves a catchy name, like “the pradi-cats”, or “Trocken, got our chips cashed in”. Lemme know if u like.

I am too busy with too many things to commit to a regular group, but if you need a fill-in-kin, I could do Zilliken, and I’ve got 9 other German producers.

My one and only Zilliken is 2012 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Spätlese.

I could also bring a photo of the vineyard, which is fun because it comes down the hill in a long triangle that ends at a road in the middle of Saarburg.

I am in Philly and can make some tastings on Friday nights or Saturdays, together with my GF; provided it fits my schedule and there is advance notice of gatherings. (We are members of the GWS and tend to go the GWS tastings in Washington DC) I have a rather good amount of Germans in my cellar.

I’m also about at my limit for regular groups, but if you need a sub, would be happy to be on list. I’ve got pretty wide assortment of bottlings/vintages from a bunch of producers (Donnhoff, Willi S, Selbach-O, JJPrum, Muller-Catoir, VS/MaxGrun, Zilliken, Gunderloch, Leitz, etc) plus at least something from most other well known producers except Egon Muller (love but can’t afford any more)

Note: We have a very active GWS right here in Philly.
In fact – the June tasting is 6/28.
Let me know if you need contact info, etc.

I received Beth’s email, but I was not free to make a Thursday night tasting. Although I am a member of our Philly/NJ chapter (we’ve probably met), it’s often easier for me to attend the GWS events in DC as they tend to be on Friday nights, and sometimes Saturdays.

Hi, did anything materalize? German wines are my favorite so I’d love to do regular tastings. I’m in downtown, Manhattan so I’m flexible for locations and timings. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I am interested, when available. Happy to help guide or suggest themes.

I am interested as well…only for dry wines though.

I hadn’t seen this thread before. Would potentially be interested but more interested if it is not strictly dry.

I’d be interested too, though my cellar isn’t the strongest on Riesling.

Don’t have a cellar with intriguing wines but willing to pitch in in other ways if anything materialized from here.

I am interested… but only for feinherb wines. newhere

Also interested when available.

The best strategy for starting a group is to have a mailing list of a few dozen, knowing that your target is a group of 8-12 for each tasting. People will opt in/out based on theme and date, but you can usually get a quorum. That way you can toggle through different themes (horizontal/vertical, dry/sweet, Germany vs Austria vs Aussie vs US, etc).

I don’t have an especially deep cellar but would be happy to source.

Count me in, especially if there’s a catchy group name. [thankyou.gif]

Let me know if this is a go.

Pradi-cats is ingenious. [worship.gif]
