I will bring a 2014 Hammell Wine Alliance True Believer. I figured this would be fun as I don't think anyone is bringing a GSM blend so far. Will also be bringing a 2nd bottle TBA

Bottle 2: 2016 Cameron Giuliano. It's a blend of Italian varieties (white) from Oregon, seems worth a try.

I will also be bringing the Flat Stanley that my cousin's kid just sent me, because what could be more New York than a visit to DiFara's?

Hey Dan, sorry but I will instead be bringing a Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Champagne instead of the NV Eric Rodez that I mentioned earlier. Thank you for keeping the list up to date! And excited to see everyone tomorrow.

Cathy and I just got in an Uber - was a pleasure seeing old faces and meeting new (mostly new). If I were to pobega a wine, I’d now have a face to put to it. Pizza was delicious as always - thanks Dan for setting this all up. Get home safe everyone. Happy Tuesday!

Thanks Dan for arranging this. It was good to see you again meet some new folks and enjoy some excellent wines and great pizza and that last one especially coming from a boy born and raised in New Haven is a big deal. Likewise good to see you again Jordan Mike Leo and Brent. Glad I went to the effort of getting there.

Great to see old friends and make some new. Thanks to Dan for making this happen. Always fun and I always find myself in a group of really interesting people at these things, of which I am doing many less as late. The pizzas are good but the square is real 'old school' fantastic.

There was that sublime 2001 Kistler Dutton Chard that was my WOTN, but that's another story... :)

Dan - Many thanks for pulling this all together, I know it must have been quite the effort. Was great to spend time with everyone and enjoy some great wines and excellent pizza.

Square was definitely my POTN as well!

Thanks Dan for arranging this amazing event, ensuring that everyone had their fill of pizza, and for keeping the wine list up to date! It was great to put faces to many of you. Pizza was fantastic as always, crazy dough and crust.

A few WOTNs, was the good showing 2001 Kistler Dutton Ranch, 2013 Gaja Barbaresco that was surprisingly quite open at its age, and 2008 Sottimano Barbaresco Cotta.

Looking forward to seeing many of you again in the near future.

Todd is correct. As a matter of fact, I have a direct line to Margaret (Dom's daughter). My off-season is late spring / early summer. [whistle.gif]
There were 22 attendees. I would have preferred 20. You get so much more pizza with less mouths to feed. [truce.gif]

This is a lot of work, but I love it. As the photo from Matt would suggest, I'm so busy passing out the slices, that i may have shorted myself once or twice. My favorite was the baby cherry tomatoes with wild onion. I also prefer the Sicilian pie for the crunch, not that the regular pie is bad.

Lots of new faces at dinner, and several regular attendees. Good company. Good pizza, and delicious wine (in that order).

I really enjoyed the '01 Kistler Chardonnay Dutton Ranch. It was exceptional.
Finally had a chance to see what all the fuss was about on the '16 Dirt and Rowdy Familiar Blanc. It lived up to the Berserker hype.
The '04 Pride was rockin, and still young to boot. Great nose.
The '13 Gaja was pino-ish color / tasting. I'm guessing this should be saved for a long time.
The '03 Tua Rita was a nice wine.
I thought the '14 Once and Future Zin Bedrock was smooth, tannic, and simple.
I preferred the NV Larmandier - Bernier Yummy, small bubbles, over the NV Gosset Brut Rose Grande Millesimee. That had a nice color and was tasty.
The '16 Cameron Giuliano from Oregon was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed it.
The '11 Quivet Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch started out green (according to a friend of mine). After an hour, this was smooth, with a little bit of tannins. It's a full bodied wine that was fuller when I had the last pour just before posting. Maybe the 2011's aren't so bad after all. [dance-clap.gif]

I tried a few others, but didn't take notes (not that my notes are fancy). There were some wines that I never got around to trying, and some wines that were brought last minute that were never listed.

See you all on Fat Tuesday 2019.

I limited the amount of wines I was sampling and limited the pours as I was driving. My plan worked swimmingly. Here are the impressions on the standouts.

2001 Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay- Amazing aromatics this was amazingly pure and well proportioned. Slight petroleum oil on the nose which I always enjoy. I joked with Leo that this is what his white Burgundies should be like.

2008 Sottimano Barbaresco Cotta- this was amazing. Pure and deft with a near haunting array of red fruits with nice mid texture. Pretty rose petals. I love the elegance. Perfectly balanced and long and consistent. Beautiful.

The 2004 Pride Cabernet Reserve was in such a great spot: Deep dark fruits and richness to just the right point. My last bottle after about 6 and I am actually saddened as I type this....

OK, I've recovered---The 2013 Gaja Barbaresco was too young to get a read. I can't believe I said that. Interesting to taste as I was considering a small purchase (I was born in 1961 for crying out loud). I will apply the funds elsewhere. (See: the that Sottimano above!)

2011 Quivet Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch- my 4th time tasting this and it has come a long way. The greenness is nearly all gone and this is a bit simple for the vineyard designate. I still have one more myself and will try next year. I have always found the Kenefick to be one of my favorite Quivets.

2003 Michele Chiarlo Barbaresco Asili- Quite nice but in a more 'in your face' style that while interesting with the pepperoni pizza gets a bit long winded on it's own. Fun nonetheless.

Thanks to everyone that shared these and all of the wines.

Pretty sure it was 2006. It was one of my WOTNs along with the 2001 Kistler Dutton Ranch Chardonnay which showed remarkably well with no oxidation and great complexity.

The Pignan was 2006, just the leftovers from the PDH offline the night before, and indeed best on the second night. I also liked Leo's 2003 Jadot.

It was great to meet everyone. Very fun event.

I'll post a new thread in January, so don't post here to tell me you're coming.
