Scherrer Winery - BD 11 only special on Mini-Verticals

Warm up your credit cards and come on in, as here is where you will find all the BerserkerDay offers - open to EVERYONE who loves wine. Apologize to your spouse or significant other ahead of time. #BD11
Forum rules
Not 'Rules', necessarily, but here's how BerserkerDay goes:

I'll be launching offers in groups of 8-10, in increments of 30 minutes. Sponsors will stay pegged at the top of the forum all day, each new group of offers will come in at the top with them for their launch grouping, cycling into the 'normal' thread after their launch time has passed, with a new launch group posted atop the thread thereafter. Discussion is encouraged, as posting replies moves the thread up to the top of the grouping, whether that is during launch time group or the 'regular' forum.

Keep checking in every 30 minutes for new offers being posted, and keep scrolling down to see everything that has been launched throughout the timeframe in which you've been on the forum, which hopefully is ALL DAY

Scherrer Winery - BD 11 only special on Mini-Verticals

#1 Post by Fred Scherrer » January 23rd, 2020, 2:56 pm

So… I guess after hearing of 10 successful BD offerings, it’s time that we join the festivities of Berserker Day 11. Can’t rush into these things you know… 😉

I frequently hear on the BB ‘…I’ve never had a Scherrer, but…’ So now is your chance. I thought an easy way to explore our style would be with special pricing on 3-packs of several varieties according to the same three vintages: 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Helfer Vineyard is a tiny vineyard just across the street from Kistler. It is a magical Chardonnay spot. This is a very small production and extremely limited availability. How limited? We are pulling wines from our library for BD11. Click here to Order *** SOLD OUT***
  • 2013 Scherrer Winery Chardonnay Helfer Vineyard
  • 2014 Scherrer Winery Chardonnay Helfer Vineyard
  • 2015 Scherrer Winery Chardonnay Helfer Vineyard

There are also several Pinot Noirs to really get a sense of what we do:

Our core bottling of Russian River Valley Click here to Order
  • 2013 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
  • 2014 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
  • 2015 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
The Hallberg Vineyard from Green Valley Click here to Order
  • 2013 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Hallberg Vineyard
  • 2014 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Hallberg Vineyard
  • 2015 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Hallberg Vineyard
Platt Vineyard from the Sonoma Coast Click here to Order
  • 2013 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard Sonoma Coast
  • 2014 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard Sonoma Coast
  • 2015 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard Sonoma Coast
Zinfandel was where I started and had to include our 'Old & Mature' Vines bottling made from the Old Vines my grandfather planted in 1912 and 'mature' vines I helped my Father and Grandfather plant in the 1970s. Click here to Order
  • 2013 Scherrer Winery Zinfandel Old and Mature Vines Scherrer Vineyard
  • 2014 Scherrer Winery Zinfandel Old and Mature Vines Scherrer Vineyard
  • 2015 Scherrer Winery Zinfandel Old and Mature Vines Scherrer Vineyard
And finally, my early love of Rhone wines is highlighted with our 'Huntsman' Red wine, a co-fermented blend of Syrah and Grenache. Click here to Order
  • 2013 Scherrer Winery Huntsman Red
  • 2014 Scherrer Winery Huntsman Red
  • 2015 Scherrer Winery Huntsman Red
You can find all of these offerings in one place with this link: https://scherrerwinery.com/special-offers/

If you decide to explore other wines available on our site, we offer a 10% discount on any orders of 12 of more bottles. The special 3-packs will build towards the discount, though they won't be further discounted.

Shipping: We prefer GSO in CA and FedEx to the rest of legal shipping states unless customer has other requests. Pick up is available at the winery by appointment. We use a flat rate for shipping depending on where you live ranging from $1.75/bottle in CA to $4/bottle to the east coast. Details on cost and states we are licensed in can be found with this link: https://scherrerwinery.com/shipping-information/

Can anyone offer guidance on the different pinots? Definitely interested in a 3-pack, but not sure which would be best for my palette.

DEFINITELY look at this thread, in Scherrer's Newbie Intro - viewtopic.php?f=82&t=166867

There is a ton of info there, and you'll see that immediately tomorrow you need to order! There's going to be a ton of interest in this.

Been buying Scherrer wines for years. And never at a discount, because he doesn't need to. This is a special treat here. Fred is like a mad wine scientist. Plus I've seen him play music live!

Definitely check out his old and mature vine Zin, which is probably his most widely known wine. His chards are always excellent, and the pinots run quite a range of approaches and styles, depending on the vineyard.

These are all high quality wines at really good prices.

In for the Zin and Chardonnay.

Probably coming back for the Platt. That pinot vineyard is killing now, that's the Rivers Marie 100 pointer...

I have a ton of Scherrer but couldn’t pass up the Hallberg vertical and since I am in the area next week, I have an excuse to stop in and pick it up.

Jason,

Do you prefer Volnay or Gevrey?

Please rank which appeals most to least to you: High toned perfumes, rich and mouth-filling, solid structure.

This will help the suggestion.

Thanks,

That Hallberg mini-vertical is like seeing Audrey Hepburn in three different roles. I hope you enjoy each one. Thanks.

I'm not surprised RM got a 100 pointer from that vineyard. It's a complicated site with extreme potential.

Appreciate the response Fred. I took a flier on the Hallberg before I saw this as I didn't want to miss the chance to buy. Hopefully I chose wisely! (from the sounds of things, there's no "wrong" choice here [cheers.gif] )

This is not a 'cleaning out the dregs' offering. I tried to imagine what would satisfy both hedonistic and intellectual/educational needs in a simple fashion.

Ordered 2 OMV Zins before a meeting, then came back and added the Helfer Chard. Saw the 10% off 12 bottles and added the 2017 OMV Zin for the 10% discount on those bottles.

Jason,

Do you prefer Volnay or Gevrey?

Please rank which appeals most to least to you: High toned perfumes, rich and mouth-filling, solid structure.

This will help the suggestion.

Thanks,

Fred
Appreciate the response Fred. I took a flier on the Hallberg before I saw this as I didn't want to miss the chance to buy. Hopefully I chose wisely! (from the sounds of things, there's no "wrong" choice here [cheers.gif] )
This is not a 'cleaning out the dregs' offering. I tried to imagine what would satisfy both hedonistic and intellectual/educational needs in a simple fashion.

Thank you. F
Fred,

I remember visiting several years ago and you told a good story about a wine writer or someone ITB who said “I can move your old inventory for you” thinking that was the reason you had the older stuff. Thanks for having a big library, looking forward to older Platts, don’t have these in my cellar.

I'm shocked they aren't - did you check WB? Lots of Scherrer fans like me here!
Apparently I'm lazy, have a narrow agenda, and offer little in the way of content and substance (RMP) (and have a "penchant for gossip" -KBI)

Got my Platt order in quick as I thought it might sell out. Might go back and add to it after this whole work thing quits getting in the way.
Brad, I'll wait to pack that up until after tonight, then.

Thanks,

F

While not on the list here, the 2008 Platt is a true sleeper. I still have a few bottles pulled from deep library at hand.

We do things a bit differently here. We offer fairly young wines to the mailing list, ahead of general release to restaurants and wine shops. Consequently, there are almost always several vintages available DTC. I encourage people to try a bottle or two here and there on for size. If they fall in love, it's likely they can come back to the well.

I want the wines in the trade to be 'pop and pour ready'. With our latent style, it takes a few years or more to get there. The upside is the wines trade off the youthful fruit for bottle bouquet very gradually over a very, very long time.

I think many of them are noted in cellar tracker, but maybe not all. We just barely released the 2015 vintages of most of these wines DTC. I bet people haven't really popped them yet, knowing the best days are yet to come.

If you subscribe to Vinous, all these wines have been reviewed. WA, WS, WE, etc. don't allow us to submit or see everything. I think Vinous is about the most comprehensive source for third-party commentary on our wines. California Grapevine would be a close second although it is not as easily searchable.
