Anybody watches the Pro Bowl?

Grammar question.

He watches the Pro Bowl?

They watch the Pro Bowl?

Anybody watches the Pro Bowl?

Anybody is the plural of Anyone.

Shouldn’t it be: Anybody watch the Pro Bowl?

Who?

+?

Anyone, anybody, and even everybody are singular pronouns.

Grammar we are still working at, but we know about wine and other stuff!

P.S. Jay Hack is such an instigator!

Watch vs watches isn’t plural vs singular, just the oddball ending for (most) third person singular verbs. I think “anybody watches” sounds wrong because it has an implicit auxiliary verb, eg, “does anybody watch” (the auxiliary verb gets the third person singular ending).

But, it’s risky to follow grammar advice from a scientist.

who’s on first.

Pure nostalgia.

I didn’t even know they still had a Pro Bowl. The least relevant/interesting matchup in all of sports.

Pure genius.

Guess some Patriots will playing in it this year!!!

I can watch the Pro Bowl and still make my purchases as a GCC member.

Correct-a-mundo as to anyone and anybody. “Any” definitely reflects singular. Everybody? Not so sure.

I’m glas the rest of you are following along with my attempt to scare away the newbies by lettering them think we’re a bit crazy so that I have more time to select my wine.

Why bother? All anybody (or anyone, for that) has to do is read 2 or 3 posts too see how meshugganah we are around here. Comes with the territory.
