    Several reviews

2001 Coutet, Sauternes

93 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Here is a typical Coutet nose that is just beginning to find its groove: barley sugar and quince scents typifying Barsac, augmented by Seville orange and lime. The palate is viscous and extremely well focused with fine mineralité and tension. It feels quite youthful and linear vis-à-vis its peers and concludes with a tangy, marmalade-lavished finish. (NM) (10/2014)

93 points Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar
Subdued but pure aromas of mirabelle, peach, pear and pineapple; hints at a roasted botrytis ripeness. Then fat and rich in the mouth, with a captivating flavor of roasted peach. Impressively broad and oily but not yet filled in. Very suave, somewhat youthfully understated Barsac, and not at all overly honeyed today or dominated by its oak component. Built to age for a long time. (ST) (7/2004)

93 points Wine Spectator
Lots of lemon and maple syrup on the nose, with dried apricots. Full-bodied, with a very sweet and rich palate of candied lemon and orange rinds and a long finish. Beautifully sticky. Not quite as exciting as from barrel but clearly outstanding. (JS) (9/2004)

2001 de Malle, Sauternes

95 points Wine Spectator
Golden-colored, with extreme aromas of honey, candied lemons and mandarin oranges. Full-bodied, very sweet and concentrated. It goes on and on. Thick and rich. Loads of spicy, almost hot botrytis character. Best after 2010. (JS) (9/2004)
Jancis Robinson
Rich, broad and very, very full. Relatively low in acidity and faintly raisiny, but no shortage of botrytis. Big build. Very rich and creamy. (JR) (4/2002)

2001 Latour de Blanche, Sauternes – WA 96 points

93 points Wine Spectator
The La Tour Blanche 2001 has long been the “insiders’ Sauternes” for the vintage. Leave the Yquem ’01 for the millionaires: load up on one of the finest recent vintages from the estate. It has a potent honeyed, frangipane and white flower-scented bouquet with subtle nougat scents in the background lending it an exotic edge. The palate is extremely well balanced with fine acidity effortlessly slicing a swathe through that unctuous, honeyed fruit. There are also understated marmalade notes with a suggestion of crème brûlée furnishing the weighty finish that goes on and on. Just don’t tell anyone how good this La Tour Blanche is…promise?

Thanks,
Bob
