Whole collection for sale

#1 Post by Chris Sihler » July 29th, 2015, 4:37 pm

Hi everyone,
I have approximately 190 bottles that I am considering selling, I'd like to sell it as a whole, if not I will probably take it to winebid. The collection was valued(by winebid) at between $18k and $25k, with a total reserve of $20k. It is heavy on Paso wines and contains a few cults from elsewhere, Schrader, Scarecrow, Horsepower, No Girls, etc. Just about everything is winery direct and has been stored in my climate controlled cellar. I am looking for $16,500 for the collection, shipping and insurance will be the buyer's responsibility, I'd consider a 3/4 sale as I know there are less valuable wines in the collection that people may not want and I'd be happy to drink. I'm located in Las Vegas, you, or a rep. are welcome to inspect the wine, and if you are within a days drive I might be able to meet you half-way or something like that.

Please only contact me for the list if you are truly interested. Thank you for your time.

Chris,

Do you have a list and would you consider reducing the cost, or absorbing shipping as it is a cost vs. value that is hard to absorb. Also, does your valuation come with or without buyers premium?

Thanks, Kris

WB's reserve price is the auction starting value, which is gross. Chris will need to pay 12-15% commission, 1% insurance and possibly even for transportation out of the estimated $20k in auction proceeds. And then, would be waiting 45-60 days after auction end to get payments, which could be drawn out over months or depending on how long everything takes to sell.

It's a little hard to read since I just copy and pasted from excel. I'll entertain offers, but $20k is the reserve, at auction you'd be paying buyer's premium + shipping, retail you'd have sales tax+shipping. I'm a reasonable guy but I have a general idea of what I'd net from auction, so the offer has to be competitive.

Nice collection, clearly very purposefully built... slightly off topic, as I'm not a buyer, but why are you selling? What percentage of your entire collection do these 200 bottles represent?

Good luck with the sale!

Forgive my ignorance, but what do the 4 numbers represent?

The four numbers are reserve per bottle, low est. per bottle, high est. per bottle, and reserve for the total number of bottles.

How much for the Pride, Maybach, and/or Schrader LPV and RBS shipped to SC? I don't think you are going to find an individual to buy all of it so your best chance is to start parting it out, start drinking, or go with Wine Bid, HDH or similar. What do you say my friend? PM me and we will negotiate.

Chris,

Would you consider parceling out a couple of cases worth?

I recently sent about 10 cases to winebid. Since they have a chicago area warehouse, they came to my house to pickup. Have only positives to say about them.

I love East coasters. You do realize that it is a 7-hour drive from Reno to Vegas?

Yes, I have done it before. We mountain bike a few days around Reno, then hike a couple of days in Yosemite, then head to Alpine for some more biking, stop off at Stone Brewing for BBQ duck tacos, then swing through Las Vegas and back to Reno.

I have also flown into LA, jumped in a truck with three buddies, taken six days to drive to Virgin, UT stopping everyday to ride a different local, then nonstop drive back to LA.

U.S. East coasters are a hardy bunch.

Just checking! I grew up in Reno and can't tell you how many times I was asked if I went to Vegas often. East coasters tend to be very surprised how far things are in the west.

Thanks for the offers, I realize selling the whole lot, or even most of it to one person is a longshot, but it will be too hectic to deal with parting it out and shipping all over. I'll let it sit on here a week or two and then drive the lot to winebid in Napa.
