Briceland Vineyards - Humboldt's Finest Since 1985

#1 Post by Andrew Morris » January 23rd, 2018, 3:27 pm

It has been a genuine pleasure to be part of the Wine Berserkers community for the last 7+ years. BerserkerDay has been a great way for us to connect our tiny, out of the way Southern Humboldt Winery with wine enthusiasts far and wide. We strive to produce expressive, honest, food-friendly wines that allow our unique terroir to shine through.

Now on to the deals!

Each 6-pack offer below has flat rate shipping of $15. Shipping on case (or more) $0. To build a case, combine any 2 six packs from the list below. Shipping to CA? Ask about a CA bonus. The asterisk (*) indicates that the wine was made with organically farmed grapes.

The Vineyards: 2014 SVD Humboldt County Pinot Noir (Offer #1) • $174
Two bottles of each; one for now and one for later.

2014 Humboldt Pinot Noir, Alderpoint Vineyard (12.7% / 98 cases)
2014 Humboldt Pinot Noir, Phelps Vineyard (13.6% / 71 cases)
2014 Humboldt Pinot Noir, Ronda’s Vineyard* (13.4% / 97 cases)

All Humboldt Pinot Pack (Offer #2) • $178
This package showcases Humboldt County Pinot terroir.

2012 Reserve Humboldt Pinot Noir (13.7% / 24 cases)
2014 Humboldt Pinot Noir, Alderpoint Vineyard (12.7% / 98 cases)
2014 Humboldt Pinot Noir, Phelps Vineyard (13.6% / 71 cases)
2014 Humboldt Pinot Noir, Ronda’s Vineyard* (13.4% / 97 cases)
2014 Humboldt Pinot Noir (13.1% / 384 cases)
2015 Humboldt Pinot Noir (12.9% / 163 cases)

Humboldt Zin & Humboldt Syrah (Offer #3) • $135
Ishi Pishi Ranch, an organically farmed vineyard near Orleans in the NE corner of Humboldt, has been a key to expanding our Humboldt grown offerings since 2011. As the vineyard continues to mature, the fruit is getting better and better. Three bottles of each.

2014 Humboldt Zinfandel, Ishi Pishi Ranch* (13.3% / 122 cases)
2014 Humboldt Syrah, Ishi Pishi Ranch* (13.5% / 116 cases)

Humboldt & Mendocino Whites (Offer #4) • $110
When my step-father founded this winery, he promoted local viticulture by making wines from all grape varieties produced in the county, a tradition that we continue to embrace today. These whites are aromatic and fermented dry. We think they’re delicious too. Three bottles of each.

2016 Humboldt Gewurtztraminer, Ishi Pishi Ranch* (13.6% / 44 cases) (bone dry)
2016 Mendocino Arneis, Spirit Canyon Vineyard (13.1% / 199 cases)

Humboldt Bordeaux Varieties (Offer #5) • $205
Organically farmed Ishi Pishi Ranch is ideally suited to growing Bordeaux grapes. These classically styled wines strike a balance between fruit and structure. Three bottles of each.

2013 Humboldt Petit Verdot, Ishi Pishi Ranch* (13.4% / 52 cases)

Thanks for your orders. Crap! With these plus my emails, I'd better go check just how many of the 13 PN's I actually have...

Also, as always, a special thanks to Mike "The Champ" Evans. I think his Briceland order might have been what put him over the top last year champagne.gif

Hey hey, is this the Petite Verdot little Corey raves about!?! One of the cooler notes I’ve seen on this site recently.

Hi Robert,

The one the Corey went wild about was the 2012, which is on the auction. But I don't think about that until all of the regular orders are in... The 2013 is nice as well, and the pack in comes with has the 2014 Ishi Pishi Cab. which Corey has given high marks to as well.

The 2012 PV was insane. The 2013 is also quite good, but the 2012 was otherworldly.

I drink a lot of these wines, especially the Pinots. I love the sense of place and the lower alcohol. Also, these wines tend to have a white floral note in the nose that I really dig.

Hi Robert,

I got your email. Sorry to those that I have been slow to reply to. I was playing dishwasher repair man yesterday while responding to Preview Orders. I am in over my head on the dishwasher, but here in the middle of nowhere, it is hard to get good repair people, so I’d better learn.

Thanks for ordering again this year. I appreciate your support.

I’ll be in touch by phone to cover a couple of details.

I look forward to your response to the wines.

Y'all should go deep on Andrew's wine! This is tasty stuff, many of them have rather unique profiles.
And seeing the rave reviews of the 2012 PV I'm glad I have one from a prior BD. The only question is when I should drink it!

Hi Adam,

Thanks for posting and for all of your support.

How many bottles do you have?

I am having a hard time holding on to the bottles I have. I really like it and think that Corey’s and Chris’s notes both cover my impressions of the wine. It is part of what really locked me in to Ishi Pishi Ranch as a site I intend to keep producing from as long as I make wine.

If you have only one bottle, I’d keep it for at least another couple of years. If have 2, pop one.

Frankly, 2012 was my first vintage of PV and of BDX from Ishi Pishi, so I can only speculate on how long to keep it based on tasting as opposed to speaking from experience.

I am looking forward to the next few bottlings of PV from that site. I am thinking it will make a mark over the next few years.

I had no idea what to expect from the wine, which made it an even better surprise. Three sips in, I was smiling as I was drinking this wine thinking "holy eff, this is really effing good."

Note: I was thinking of a word other than "eff".

OK guys. I appreciate all of your enthusiasm for the 12 Ishi Pishi Ranch Humboldt Petit Verdot. Problem is, that wine is long gone. Let’s talk about wines that exist. The 13 PV is pretty nice. I might like the 14 that is in the Red Futures Pack even better.

Other good stuff too. I don’t want everyone thinking about the big one that got away. Unless you are going to win that auction.

Agree that the 13 PV was very nice. And your Pinots are great tasting and great value. I tend to be particularly fond of the Ronda's and the Reserve. And I also like the Zins, and the Cab...

The Merlot, Syrah, Arneis, Brut, and Pet Nat don’t suck either. It is really hard to show any kind of moderation with so many fine choices.

Pinot Deals 1 & 2 Closed. Others remain open until 12m Sunday.

Thanks to everyone for a great event. Particularly to Todd & Brig for making it happen.

I am overwhelmed by all of the kind winos who commented and joined in to let people know that they have enjoyed our wines.

I see the PN stock has dropped enough, so we’d better give that a rest. If anyone wants the other stuff, let me know.

Andrew, the Arneis didn’t pair well with a Vinaigrette dressing on my salad but a great match with mussels in a garlic, butter and wine wine preparation.

thanks; I did hear back from Andrew, he was busy but said he'd be able to give those of us who ordered futures a shipping estimate sometime soon. Looking forward to trying the wines; no rush given the warm temps anyway.

What is the latest status on BD IX Futures wines - has anyone received wines, or shipment estimates?

Futures of : Briceland Vineyards - Humboldt's Finest Since 1985

#41 Post by Andrew Morris » November 18th, 2018, 8:36 pm

Berserkers who ordered Futures from me:

Sorry for the delay. Wine, winemaking and winery operation offer me an ongoing learning opportunity. I have learned that Futures may not be such a great idea unless the wine bottle date is almost set. Or perhaps if I that all of the wine I have in bottle is already allocated?

There is no problem with the Futures whites. I can get those out any time.

A few things have not gone exactly as planned on some of the Futures reds. There is not going to be a 15 Phelps. The 13 Reserve is ready but not yet bottled. The Merlot is not yet bottled.

So, my proposal is that I substitute a 12 Reserve for the 13, a 14 Phelps or a second 15 Ronda’s for 15 Phelps and a 14 Cabernet for the Merlot. Or, what ever works for you. Perhaps a 13 Petit Verdot instead?

Sorry again for the delay and thanks for your ongoing support and for your patience with me.

I will be digging through my system to fulfill any orders that had Futures in them and are not already set. If I miss you, don't be shy to catch me by phone: 707 923-2429 or email: andrew@bricelandvineyards.com

Great! I suggest a cold carafe and a careful pour on the Pet Nats, unless you like it evenly cloudy, then shake it up before you chill it.

I look forward to your comments!
