Micro Lot Coffees Updated

Micro-lot coffee has become an adventure for true coffee lovers. This is a fun journey of specialty micro-lots, i.e. coffee that is produced by its date and origin, because each farm/area has its own terroir.

These farmers live within higher standards than their counterparts at other origins. About ten years ago many farmers started building their own micro mills in order to keep their coffee separate from commercial coffee and sell a superior product.

Here is the beginning of your journey!! We are excited to offer an “ACES” coffee for the first time this year. ACES lots are small, exclusive, incredible offerings that empower coffee growers, showcase triumphant experiments and meticulous production, and revolutionize the coffee experience

You will receive 2-8oz sealed, one way valve bags of each coffee. All of these coffees will be roasted to a City/Medium roast on Saturday January 27 and will be shipped on January 29. These are small production coffees so we are limited in the number of orders we can take.

E-mail me with any questions. ericn@thecoffeegrounds.com

El Salvador
Region: Chalatenango
Farmer: Jose Armando Portillo
Farm: Finca El Conrrodal
Variety: Pacamara, grown at 1500 masl
Method: Washed
Notes: Grapefruit, herbs, mild sweetness and heavy, intense acidity.

Don Jose not only grows coffee on his family’s land but he also roasts coffee for the local market. He’s passionate about his livelihood, saying that coffee runs in his family’s blood. His farm is a 12 manzana plot (one manzana is around 1.7 acres)
His coffee is hand-picked ripe at the height of the season, de-pulped in the afternoon and fermented for about eight hours before being washed and laid to dry on concrete patios. The drying time is about eight days.

Rwanda
Region: Gishamwana Island/Lake Kivu
Farmer: Emmanuel Rwakagara
Farm: Gishamwana Washing Station
Variety: Bourbon, grown at 1650 masl
Method: Washed
Notes: Cane sugar, lime, lemon, cocoa flavors.

This secluded island in Lake Kivu is 100% dedicated to coffee—amazing! The island includes more than 35,000 coffee trees, native plantings, domestic and wild animals. The coffee is all grown organically and due to the island’s isolation, many pests and diseases have yet to harm the crops. We offered this microlot a couple of years ago and it was a stunner; we are so happy to have a second round of this coffee!

Colombia–ACES
Region: El Tambo/Cauca
Farmer: Carlos Canpo
Farm: Finca El Guayabo
Variety: Castillo, grown at 1930 masl
Method: Washed
Notes: Sugary sweetness, grape-like acidity, dark chocolate, creamy mouthfeel.

This is an incredibly special offering as it’s not only Carlos’ first time selling to a specialty market but the coffee is spectacular! Grown on a single hectare plot on a 7 hectare farm, Carlos and his wife harvest their coffee May-July, de-pulp the same day and push their coffee through an azaranda (a mesh sorting table meant to separate lower quality beans) before open tank fermentation and the washing cycle.

Papua New Guinea
Region: Chimbu Province/Eastern Highlands
Farmer: Keto Tapasi Progress Association/375 member farmers
Farm: Several cooperative members
Variety: Arusha, Bourbon, Typica, grown at 1600-1800 masl
Method: Washed
Notes: Melon, toffee, grapefruit with floral flavors and lively acidity.

The Keto Tapasi Progress Association is a super interesting group in that the members cooperate and collaborate despite cultural hurdles. The organization has been Fair-Trade certified since 2011 and certified organic since 2014. The farmers typically own coffee “gardens”: a couple of hundred trees with no clear demarcation between neighboring growers. Truly a cooperative!

Eric: Always excellent coffee! Out of curiosity , do you offer any decaf versions?

Cheers!
Marshall

Decaf??? For the late night coffee quest??

This was a great lot last year - in again + a pound.

sorry–we can’t do decaf this year.

I’ll have to look into that for 2019.

Order in for the micro lots and added the Columbian decaf. Excellent coffee!

Cheers!

I was finally able to stop by the store last year. Sadly Eric wasn’t in but I highly recommend their coffee! Great shop if you’re ever in northwest Wisconsin.

Thanks for the nice words. If you are in town another time, drop me a line and we can enjoy a beer together in our brewery.

If anyone else is in the area today…stop in for our Bock Fest and some beer poking!!

thanks for all the orders. We’ve sold 1/2 of our offers so far. Don’t wait too long as we have a finite amount of these wonderful coffees.
