Sashimi & Sake on a Tuesday Night

Tonight’s supper was the last of our last purchase of sashimi from Catalina Offshore. We enjoyed hamachi loin and belly, mackeral, & halibut, with lightly pickled ginger, thinly sliced cucumber, wasabi, and soy sauce. We started with the last of the Nigori ‘Dreamy Clouds’ that was left over from our our last sashimi dinner. When that light, soft sake was finished, we had a Rihaku ‘Wandering Poet’ sake. Richer and more complex, it’s currently our favorite of sakes now available here in Santa Fe. Tonight we had our meal around the coffee table in the living room in front of a roaring fire, listening to Schubert impromptus played on a fortepiano by Malcolm Bilson.

Then as the fire was dwindling, and the sashimi and sake were disappearing, we moved to the den for dessert. While watching various TiVo’d shows, we had the usual post-sashimi finisher, chocolate. We had the second half of the '83 Graham’s Port that we had after the last sashimi dinner, with TJ’s chocolate truffles and French Vanilla, Chocolate Hazelnut, and Dark Chocolate Piroulines, a lovely Santa Fe evwning

I don’t know what it is, but I picture all of your meals in this wildly romantic castle tower or something…just the food and the way you write these things…It’s great. Thanks for the notes Dick. Keep 'em coming! [good.gif]

It is a castle. A castle of friendship, generosity, food and wine. It doesn’t get any better.

It’s only a castle of the mind. It’s a 2100 sq ft condo a half mile north of and a couple hundred feet higher than the Plaza. It’s on three levels, the lowest is the garage, wine cellar, and laundry room; the middle (half a flight up) are the kitchen, dining area, living room, den and guest bedroom and bath; then on top of the garage is our master bedroom suite and bath. From the bedroom, bathroom, and balcony off the bedroom, we have views to the south and west over the city to the Galisteo Mountains. From the living room and guest bedroom we have views to the North and East to the south end of the Sangre de Cristos and the Santa Fe Ski Mountain. We have the balcony off the master bedroom, patios off the living room and guest bedroom. It makes a great venue for entertaining and for life in general.
