UUNIFETAPASTA

I have some leftover of high-quality Feta cheese from Lesbos, so time for this soul-food from Finland by the food-blogger Jenni Häyrinen „Liemessä“.

This recipe Uunifetapasta or baked-feta pasta published in 2019 caused Feta-shortages in Finland. In 2020 this recipe went viral at TikTok and social media in general around the world. But also on the food-sections of famous newspapers. Here are the ingredients:

I also make this dish to use my Sage/Breville „Pizzaiolo“ for other things besides Pizza, as the oven has a mode to roast vegetables at 400 C or 800F. A roasting pan with removable handle is included with this oven.

Ingredients

300-450g pasta
200g greek feta cheese
500-600g cherry tomatoes
1 bunch basil
1/2 perperoncino
olive oil
3-4 cloves garlic (optional)

Preparation

  1. Put feta cheese, tomatoes and halved garlic cloves in a baking dish. Chopped perperoncino on top of the cheese and drizzle with a good dash of olive oil. Add salt. Put in the Breville “Pizzaiolo” for 10min by 400 C or 800 F. Or in the pre-heated oven for 15min by 200C or 400 F. Also cook the pasta.

  1. Remove from the Breville. Or adjust the heat on 220 C incl. grill for 10min in your oven.

I’ve made this several times after it became TikTok famous. I like to also add in a bit of other cheeses I might have on hand. Delicious!

The trick with this recipe is not to use too high quality Feta cheese, especially if its aged feta. It will crumble and not emulsify properly, leaving the texture slightly grainy. This recipe is probably the only good use for the cheap plastic vacuum packaged “feta” cheese from Wally World.

Uunifetapasta is Finnish for “oven feta pasta”. We dont have many dishes to be proud of in the Finnish cuisine, so we’ll claim this one
