Las Vegas Suggestions

I will be there for one night. Looked at Guy Savoy and it really does not look appealing, high end ingredients for the sake of charging an insane price. Going to Lotus of Siam for lunch.

Any suggestions based on recent or semi-recent experiences.

My default will be Momofuku where I have long standing cred in the Momo empire.

If I’m there for one night (it’s never happened) I’m going to Raku. Not glamorous but so fun, if the dining style fits.

My go to place is Sushi Kame. Caveat is I haven’t been in over a year and I have not eaten at their new location. They moved after the last time I was there. It is a lot easier to get to the new location so that’s a plus.

I think the food is better at the old location of LoS over the new location but again same caveat as I haven’t been to either in over a year.

I appreciate the Japanese recommendations but I do go to the best Japanese spots in NYC on regular basis so my bar is high.

Thanks for the tip about the old LoS, do you know if one has a better German selection than the other.

And any read on Banks new spot, both food and wine.

Robert, I don’t know which spot, if any, has a better German selection. While Bank is no longer there, I’m sure he probably still has some insight on wine selections at LoS if you wanted to reach out to him.

Sushi Kame would be a great addition to NYC top spots. I wish they would relocate here. Their wine selection though is poor but I usually drink sake so it is not a problem for me.

I know several people that swear by Golden Steer as one of the best steakhouses in the country. Basic but good. A friend, who’s into prime beef, books a large group every year when he goes to Vegas for March Madness. Not sure the wine list is an equal attraction though.

Baazar Meat is excellent, though not the best location. Carbone (though you live in NYC so you have access to the original) is really solid for red sauce Italian.

Bank left LOS many years ago (at least 8) and I think is on his third restaurant. It is called Lamaii.

I will let you know what I learn.

Guy Savoy is the best meal I’ve had in LV (on two occasions). But, as the OP points out, the price is insane. The same can be said of Twist and Joel Robuchon (not a fan anyway). It depends on what you are looking for and maybe where you are staying. Momofuko is solid. I may be in the minority but our Raku experience was mediocre. For steaks we like Jean-Georges in the Aria. Which is very close to Carbone which we also like. Had a very good experience at Jaleo the last time we were there.

We enjoyed the Kame omakase in the new location in Nov 2019. Approaches the top NY levels I think, but not sure it got there. Tatsujin X is a legit teppanyaki place, which was a new thing to me. Very weird and authentic-seeming. Delicious and enjoyable for something different. The seafood omelet was mind-blowing.

Bank’s new place has a nice list. I’d probably go for Bazaar Meat, but only if you like big portions of meat/fish. The list has around 1,000 selections and is expensive. Our wonderful Gov just raised the seating limits, but I’d check all of these places to see what they are doing about reservations and capacity.

I only know based on the pictures he posts but the food looks good and I am sure you will like his wine list!

Lamaii is good and the wine list is excellent and reasonably priced. I don’t know about their German selection as I really didn’t look at those the few times I was there.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread. I ended up doing Lotus of Siam for Lunch at the original location and it was very good. The wine list still had some of Bank’s German selection but 50% of what I picked was no longer available. We did Lamii for dinner and thought the food was very good. If I had to pick based on food I with give the nod to Lamii however the wine list is surprisingly light on German wine as Bank said he is having a hard time getting it in Las Vegas. There are many other things like Selosse and Raveneau at or very close to retail pricing.

Irrelevant for food, but I just read all center strip locations now pay 6:5 on a blackjack instead of 3:2.

I don’t play anymore so maybe not new news.

Was there a couple of weeks ago and had dinner at Lotus of Siam. The food was excellent and better than my last few meals there. The wine list has some gems but they are also out of lot of things on the list so it can be a bit of work to order.

And god Las Vegas is such a trip, I was there for a conference. I pulled up to the casino where the conference was located at 11 am. An approximately 90 year old woman with a large wine glass that was full to the brim, completely wasted and could barely walk, walks up to my uber sits in the front seat spilling wine all over and says to the driver I need to go across the street…AND he took her!

i had to spend a night on the strip against my will earlier this month. the eataly was a nice surprise. definitely a sanctuary amongst all the awfulness. found some decent wine by the glass and bottle as well.

Ended up going to Delmonico Steakhouse a few months back, as a default because we were too tired to leave the hotel. Very pleasantly surprised by both food and wine list.
