Frankfurt Restaurants

#1 Post by theocorrel » April 6th, 2019, 3:52 am

Can anyone recommend restaurants in Frankfurt for very traditional German food? Casual is fine. Just looking for great, traditional German food!

I assume this one is much more difficult, but I also would be interested in traditional or historic Jewish restaurants/delis in Frankfurt, if such exists (any historic ones presumably re-established, if they exist).

Thanks much for your help.

I haven't spent much time in Frankfurt or been to any Jewish places there but googled this list:

Just on the south side of the Main near the Sachsenhausen quarter is this funky place that hits the traditional German buttons, and I enjoyed it too:

This places is very traditional, even that you might end up sitting with another party, and it's a short walk from the Old City across the river. Zum Gemalten Haus.

PS: Besides enjoying the Appelwoi and Riesling, don’t forget to try the ‘national drink’ of Frankfurt, the Mispelchen. I don’t know how came to be as it’s principal ingredients aren’t even German, but it’s ubiquitous in that town.
Cheers,
Paul
