Akelarre - Still a solid 3 Michelin stars

We had lunch at Akelarre today.

Beautiful setting and wonderful day to enjoy it. A fantastic tasting menu. Inventive but using the local cuisine as the springboard. Chef Pedro is a genius here. The carnaroli rice and snail/periwinkle dish was sublime!!!

We ordered some Philoponnat Clos des Goisses 05 which was excellent. 2013 Raveneau Blanchots/2011 Blain-Gagnard Criots-Batard-Montrachet and 2010 Marc Colin Batard were extraordinary. A 1951 CVNE Vina Imperial Real Riserva was ordered. Opened with care with port tongs to applause from all of us.

A delicate older rioja with sublime aromatics. It was a perfect foil to our pigeon. An extraordinary treat.

A fantastic meal at a special place.

Don, sounds fantastic and a continuation of a great trip. You’re showing how it should be done when I hit that milestone in 20 years!

Akelarre is excellent, an underrated gem. Not sure why it doesn’t get the attention of the other three-star restaurants in Spain.

Yeah! So glad you had a great experience there. Isn’t the location/ view beautiful?

Yes Lori. The location and view are magical.

Wow, sounds amazing and great wine selections. Hope to get there one day.
